Goalkeeper Andre Onana has described Ruben Amorim as “a very positive coach” after his first game in charge of Manchester United ended in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.

United took the lead against Ipswich with less than two minutes played thanks to Marcus Rashford’s second Premier League goal of the season. He turned home Amad’s cross from the right to give Amorim the dream start.

However, United failed to build on their flying start and were pegged back just before half-time when Omari Hutchinson’s effort from distance took a slight deflection off Noussair Mazraoui and left Onana with no chance.

United, had it not been for Onana, would have left Portman Road empty-handed, with the Cameroonian making a number of fine saves, the best of which denied Liam Delap prior to Hutchinson bringing the home side level.

Despite being unable to secure maximum points on Amorim’s debut in the United dugout, Onana is looking forward to the future under Amorim’s leadership.

“We are all happy to have him, he is a very positive coach,” Onana told MUTV. “He played years ago so he knows how to manage a dressing room. We are all happy and very positive.”

Reflecting on the draw, the United goalkeeper added: “We are Manchester United and there is a lot of responsibility on us. We have to be able to win games and unfortunately we didn’t win today. It’s difficult.”
