Huge New World Aeternum roadmap includes intriguing new seasonal worlds

It’s safe to say that New World Aeternum, the enhanced relaunch of Amazon Games’ MMORPG, has injected some new life into the game. Maybe not to the extent that we all hoped, but with its expansion to consoles and Steam numbers looking a bit healthier, it’s certainly not been an entirely detrimental move. To further prove how dedicated to New World it is, Amazon has just dropped a chunky new roadmap that not only looks at what’s to come in Season 7 but further into the future too.

While its hugely successful first few weeks had the juggernauts of the MMORPG space looking nervously over their shoulders, New World never really managed to establish itself as a particularly big fish in the genre’s pond. Still, it’s maintained a decently-sized community over the years and New World Aeternum is seen as something of a fresh start, and it looks like Amazon has plenty planned for it.

In the new roadmap, it begins by highlighting what’s arriving in Season 7. The headline feature is Seasonal Worlds, which are servers with a specific theme and ruleset that reset and change at the start of every new season. For the first ever Seasonal World, Amazon has gone with a PvP theme. PvP will be “always-on” in these servers, and there will be special loot that drops on death. There will also be unique items to this Seasonal World that you can acquire. While this world will cease to exist once Season 8 rolls around, your progression will carry over to the next one, so although the content will reset, your character and progress won’t.

There will also be a “preview weekend” for a brand new Outpost Rush map that you can try out at some stage during Season 7, Mutated Expeditions upgrades, and loads of new trials, balance changes, seasonal events, and more.

However, it’s looking longer term where things get really interesting. Amazon is calling this a “living roadmap”, where it shares in-development features that should arrive in the future – plus some potential features that are still in the exploration phase.

In terms of what’s actually being worked on right now, there are of course more Seasonal Worlds for later seasons, endgame progression improvements, new PvP modes, global storage, a matchmade Invasions mode, and (most importantly) a barbershop for those in need of a cut.

As for the features that are currently under consideration, there’s a lot of intriguing stuff. As well as some expected things like new weapons, new PvE modes, and a new raid, the roadmap also lists ranked PvP, “procedural expeditions with extraction,” company halls with storage, a new trade skill, an overhaul to endgame rewards and systems, and so much more.

Oh, as a heads up as well, Amazon is currently offering free trials of New World Aeternum. Sadly, this is only for PlayStation and Xbox players at the moment, but if you’re a PC player that wants to convince your console comrades to get into the game, now might be the perfect opportunity. The trial lasts for four hours, and all of your progress will carry over if you buy the full game.

If all of this future content isn’t enough to convince you that New World Aeternum is worth your time, here are some other amazing RPGs and co-op games you can dive into instead.
