STALKER 2 came out just last week and was available on day 1 on Xbox Game Pass. The game has been reviewed well and has gotten a lot of praise for sticking to the foundations laid out by the older games in the STALKER franchise. Despite being a brilliant game, this title does have some flaws, and most of them are technical. STALKER 2 suffers from some performance issues, and analysts have even concluded that the game only hovers around 40-50 fps on the Xbox Series X.
Do keep in mind that this title was designed for the Series X, so its performance on the console has been a point of major outrage for the fans.
STALKER 2 fails to perform on the system it was designed for
While the overall performance of the game is passable, its FPS tends to tank whenever players enter a densely populated area. So, those playing on a Series X can expect some stutters every time they’re in a town filled with a bunch of NPCs. A major flaw in what is otherwise a beautiful game.
Fans have also noted that the game can drop to 0FPS on the Xbox Series X. This happens frequently when you’re entering a town, and it takes the game a few seconds to stabilize afterward. It’s quite a big error for GSC Game World to make an Xbox exclusive that doesn’t perform well on the console itself.
In their defense, STALKER 2 wasn’t a true Xbox exclusive and had to be optimized for PCs as well. However, it has to be said that the game’s performance on PC also leaves a lot to be desired.
Some fans who were excited to pick up the game on day one through Game Pass were left disappointed after dealing with STALKER 2’s performance issues.
Will the PlayStation 5 be able to handle STALKER 2?
Since Xbox is no longer stingy about making its games available on the PS5, we can expect to see STALKER 2 on Sony’s console in the future. Recently, we’ve seen Xbox exclusives like Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle make their way to the PlayStation. For the most part, these titles have performed well on the PS5; however, will we be able to say the same for STALKER 2?
It is common knowledge that the hardware of the Xbox Series X is faster than that of the PS5. Going off that, it’s fair to expect the Series X to give a better performance than a PS5.
This should also be the case with The Heart of Chornobyl, and since the game already struggles to run on the Series X, just how bad will it be on PS5?
Hopefully, we will never have to find out, and GSC Game World will be able to fix the game’s performance issues with future patches. But if they fail, we might just get to see STALKER 2 crash and burn on both current-gen consoles.
The outrage over such a thing could be catastrophic for the developer. What do you think about STALKER 2’s poor performance on the Xbox Series X? Let us know in the comments below.
