The 2024 NFL season seems to be a lost cause for the Dallas Cowboys, as America’s Team came into the season with Super Bowl aspirations, which vanished quickly after the team began to deal with costly injuries to stars Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence and Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys lost five straight games coming into their Week 12 matchup with the division-rival Washington Commanders, with everyone writing off the team for obvious reasons, especially with Prescott out for the season with a hamstring injury that requires surgery.
With Dallas headed for a disappointing end to the campaign, there’s been a lot of speculation about the job status of head coach Mike McCarthy, who many believe is on the hot seat and may finally be fired.
Even though the Cowboys parting with McCarthy would be justified considering the outcome of this season, owner Jerry Jones recently said he isn’t opposed to signing him to a new contract.
While McCarthy said he is focused on the team, not his future, he seemed grateful for that idea.
“I’m not going to throw away positive vibes either, so keep ‘em coming,” McCarthy said, via Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt.
Mike McCarthy was asked by @calvinwatkins about Jerry Jones saying it’s not crazy that McCarthy could be extended. He said that’s not the focus and he doesn’t want to talk about his future, but he joked:

Although anything can happen from now until the end of the season, with the Cowboys upsetting the Commanders being the perfect example, Dallas moving on from McCarthy might be the wise move, especially with viable coaching candidates available on the open market.
Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel could become candidates for Dallas, which would make for an interesting offseason for the Cowboys.
