If the San Francisco 49ers are to win this Sunday’s crucial game against the Green Bay Packers, their defense will need to come up big against Jordan Love and company.

Their defense hasn’t exactly been terrible overall, but a number of miscues, especially in the fourth quarter, have contributed to their disappointing 5-5 record and put them on the verge of missing the playoffs.

They continue to be hampered by the injury bug on both sides of the football, and they could be without two key players when they head to Lambeau Field this weekend.

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, left tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa are in jeopardy of being forced to sit out versus Green Bay, per Eric Branch.

Williams has a bad ankle, but he was able to play this past Sunday when the Niners blew a fourth-quarter lead and lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

On the other hand, Bosa, who got off to a good start versus Seattle, had to leave the game in the third quarter and didn’t return.

Without Bosa, the Niners’ defense was compromised, which allowed Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith to engineer the game-winning drive in the final minutes, which included his 13-yard touchdown run.

This Sunday’s game in Green Bay is a virtual must-win contest for San Francisco, as a loss would reduce their chances of making the playoffs to almost zero.

They will head East to face the red-hot Buffalo Bills the following Sunday.
