The New York Jets are likely to be looking for a new head coach this offseason unless interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich can magically improve this team’s record to 9-8.

So, perhaps Gang Green might want to find someone who can make it work.

A familiar face like Rex Ryan, who has previously stated that he would like to coach this team again, could be an option.

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd is supportive of that idea.

“Rex Ryan wants the New York Jets job…I think it would work. He’s qualified; he’s won. Because they’re such a circus, he’s the only proven coach that would really want the job,” Cowherd said Friday via Fox Sports Radio.

Bringing back Ryan to be the head coach could be an intriguing move.

The former Super Bowl winner coached the Jets from 2009-2014.

In that period, he guided the Jets to multiple AFC Championship Game appearances and four seasons with a .500 record or better.

He is the last head coach to bring this franchise success.

Other than former NFL head coach Jon Gruden and the Raiders, few coaches return to coach a team for a second time.

However, Ryan knows how to win in the New York market, and he has a strong defensive background, going back to his time coaching the Baltimore Ravens.

At this point, owner Woody Johnson and Co. should be open to any option, considering what has happened to this franchise over the last 10 or 15 years.
