The current Wicked promotion has everyone buzzing, especially with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo tearing up at every interview. But amid all the emotional moments, rumors are circulating that Erivo might be heading to the MCU.
And let’s just say, fans aren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat. While Erivo’s talent is undeniable, many Wicked fans are not thrilled by the idea of her stepping into the superhero world. Here’s why this potential move is stirring up some drama among fans.
Fans Don’t Want Cynthia Erivo as Storm in the MCU’s X-Men
The casting chatter kicked off when Cynthia Erivo posted some Storm fan art on Instagram a few months ago, sparking speculation that she might be the in the running for the role. It’s got fans thinking, and speculating, she’s either already auditioned or is being seriously considered.
One thing’s for sure, the new X-Men cast is going to be a monumental moment in MCU history. After the Fantastic Four announcement, fans are hoping Marvel will make a major spectacle out of this casting reveal as well.

Right now, the internet is divided when it comes to Cynthia Erivo playing Storm, seemingly due to how she reacted to a fan made Wicked poster which got her under a lot of heat. While there’s no real reason other than maybe her age that fans are questioning the casting, only time will tell how this all plays out.
On top of that, Halle Berry has famously portrayed Storm in the past, and many fans are still emotionally attached to her version of the character. So naturally, it is going to be tough for anyone to step into those shoes.
Can Halle Berry Return and Reprise Her Role as Storm?
Deadpool & Wolverine took the fans back to the world of Fox’s X-Men franchise, now officially dubbed Earth-10005. This opens the door for many of Fox’s beloved characters, heroes and villains alike, to make their way into the MCU. With so many mutants returning in Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s hope that even more will follow, especially since Earth-10005 managed to survive Cassandra Nova’s attack.
One of the easiest ways for Halle Berry to reprise her role as Storm could be through revisiting the X-Men of Earth-10005 in an upcoming MCU project. This would bring Berry back alongside familiar faces like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, depending on when and where this storyline fits in the timeline.
The MCU’s multiversal saga also offers a ton of possibilities for Berry’s return. After all, a version of the X-Men was confirmed on Earth-838 in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and perhaps fans could see Halle’s Storm seeking vengeance for Professor X’s death.
As for Cynthia Erivo, there’s still plenty of speculation whether or not she will step into the role of Storm, or tackle another character altogether in the MCU. Fans are eagerly waiting to see where her involvement will land!
