Invisible Woman’s New Superpower Continues Marvel’s Reinvention of the Team’s Power Ahead of Their MCU Debut

Warning: Spoilers for Fantastic Four #25When Invisible Woman and her Fantastic Four teammates first hit the superhero scene in 1961, their powers were simplistic. Invisible Woman’s abilities were especially basic, as she could only make herself invisible. However, over the years, she and her family have unlocked upgrades to become the versatile fighters they are today. Invisible Woman’s latest upgrade is another daring reinvention of her capabilities that preps her for the Fantastic Four’s introduction to the MCU.

In Fantastic Four #25 by Ryan North, Carlos Gómez, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Caramagna, the titular team investigates a mysterious dome in which Doctor Doom, Marvel’s newly appointed Sorcerer Supreme, has encased Latveria. The Fantastic Four are unable to penetrate it, and as the Human Torch interacts with it, they all teleport to an unfamiliar location that evidently isn’t Latveria. When Johnny says that all he did was touch the dome, Invisible Woman makes a statement that hints at a surprising superpower: “I felt some very strange EM radiation when you did.”

Invisible Woman’s New Superpower Continues Marvel’s Reinvention of the Team’s Power Ahead of Their MCU Debut

Invisible Woman officially has the ability to sense electro-magnetic waves, and this is just the most recent in a long line of power upgrades that she and her teammates have received in the months leading up to their MCU debut.

Invisible Woman’s New Powers Make Her a Planetary Threat

Sue Storm Is Becoming One of Marvel’s Strongest Heroes

Invisible Woman’s newfound power to detect EM waves enables her to locate machinery that might not be visible to the eye, as it does when she and the Fantastic Four are transported by Doom’s magic. It could even function as her own version of Spider-Man’s iconic Spider-Sense. If Invisible Woman senses danger nearby, she can act quickly by activating a force field and thus protect her team before anything strikes. The ability to sense her surroundings is useful for a hero who can summon a shield like Sue Storm can, and it will certainly come in handy in the future.

North’s run on Fantastic Four has given Invisible Woman plenty of awesome abilities to unleash her potential. In Fantastic Four #12 by North and Iban Coello, when facing the Dinosaur Avengers, Sue manages to overpower Thor and Mjolnir with a force field.

Even more impressive is her feat in Fantastic Four #6 by North and Ivan Fiorelli. Sue uses her biggest force field yet to block out the sun, shrouding the planet in darkness. Maria Hill refers to her as a “mass-extinction event” after this, proving just how formidable she is. Invisible Woman’s powers can also be amplified further through combos with her teammates, such as the Human Torch.

Human Torch Has His Own Power Upgrade to Match His Sister

Johnny and Sue Storm Are Fantastic Four’s Most Unbeatable Duo

Invisible Woman isn’t the only member of the Fantastic Four with remarkable upgrades at her disposal. Human Torch uncovers a new technique of his own in Fantastic Four #8 by North and Fiorelli, as he creates a flaming clone of himself that can be deployed at will. Johnny affectionately refers to this duplicate as “Flame-O”, and though the name is unassuming, Flame-O packs a serious punch in the field.

This clone can harness the Human Torch’s usual firepower on a much broader scale, flying around right beside him so he can deal double the damage. Flame-O’s full power, though, is made known in an epic team-up with Invisible Woman.

Together, Invisible Woman and Human Torch achieve a power upgrade unlike any other.

In Fantastic Four #18 by North and Gómez, asteroids threaten to wipe out the planet, and it’s up to Invisible Woman and Human Torch to combine their powers to save Earth from destruction. When the typical uses of their abilities aren’t enough, Alicia and the rest of the Fantastic Four formulate a plan where Johnny generates the largest flame possible and Sue bends the light to create a laser. Together, Invisible Woman and Human Torch achieve a power upgrade unlike any other and prevent the asteroids from hitting the planet, cementing the Fantastic Four as the Earth’s saviors once again.

In addition to Invisible Woman and her brother, Mister Fantastic has also acquired power-ups that challenge the Fantastic Four’s usual skills. Reed Richards discovers how far his stretching abilities can go in Fantastic Four #5 by North and Fiorelli, when he and his teammates get themselves caught in the Dark Dimension.

In order to bring his family home, Reed has to rotate them back to their home dimension by “thinking four-dimensionally” and stretching himself past his limits. Moreover, in Fantastic Four #18, it’s confirmed that Mister Fantastic can split into separate bodies through mitosis. It seems there’s no end to what the Fantastic Four are capable of.

The Fantastic Four’s ongoing adventures have found inventive ways to test them and propel them to astonishing new heights, and the Thing is no exception. Maria Hill’s files in Fantastic Four #18 reveal that the Thing has the power to create illusions if Invisible Woman projects a pattern of light onto his rocky form. Combined with his insurmountable strength and capacity to take damage, Ben Grimm is as powerful as the others. Now that they’re all at the peak of their fighting ability, the Fantastic Four are prepared to impress audiences as they hit the big screen in their upcoming MCU movie.

The Fantastic Four, despite being Marvel’s First Family as created by the legendary team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, tend to be underrated among general audiences due to their past films not quite reflecting what makes them great. They kicked off the age of superheroes in the 1960s, yet they’re hardly recognized for it.

But with their new upgrades, the heroes of the Fantastic Four have been revamped in fascinating ways, and the world will soon recognize their merit when Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters. There are many possibilities for how these expanded abilities can be depicted in the movie, and it’ll be exciting for fans to see the Fantastic Four’s various powers get brought to life.

Marvel Studios’
Fantastic Four: First Steps
is currently slated to hit theaters on July 25th, 2025!

Invisible Woman has never been able to properly shine on the big screen, with her often falling to the wayside as her teammates show off the full extent of their abilities. Now that her ever-growing repertoire of superpowers has solidified that she’s a true force to be reckoned with, it’s time for the movies to show what the comics have demonstrated in spades: Invisible Woman is the Fantastic Four‘s most powerful asset, and she and her teammates deserve to amaze audiences with their astounding new skills.
