Warning: SPOILERS ahead for From season 3, episode 2.From season 3 features several callbacks to memorable locations, figures, and objects thanks to Miranda’s (Sarah Booth) paintings. Viewers first learned about Miranda, Victor’s (Scott McCord) mother, just before the From season 2 finale. The resident who’s been trapped in the Township the longest, Victor grew up in the Town and its surrounding woods. Victor tells Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) that he and his mother arrived in the Town well before From‘s monster-repelling talismans were discovered, which turned every night into the world’s most terrifying game of hide-and-seek. However, the traumatized Victor has repressed a lot.
While delving into Victor’s mysterious backstory, From‘s second outing reveals that the Township’s lunchbox-toting denizen hid a bunch of his drawings in the back of his mother’s old car. When Tabitha asks Victor to show her From‘s lighthouse portal, he first takes her to the car graveyard on the outskirts of Town. The artwork locked inside reveals that Victor had a twin sister, Eloise. It was Victor’s mother who told her children to draw pictures of the things they saw in the Town, and as From season 3, episode 2 reveals, Miranda did the same before arriving in Town.
7 The Symbol
The Glyph That’s Haunted Jade Also Appears In Miranda’s Paintings
It’s no surprise that From‘s mysterious symbol appears in Miranda’s prophetic paintings of the Township, though its continued appearance hasn’t revealed its true meaning. In From season 3, episode 1, Tabitha wakes up in a hospital in Camden, Maine. After some aimless wandering, she realizes that Camden is Victor’s hometown. Using the return address taped inside Victor’s lunchbox as a guide, Tabitha shows up at Victor’s childhood home. There, she meets Victor’s father, Henry, who evaded From‘s Town — unlike the rest of his family. Bewildered by Victor’s lunchbox, Henry is skeptical of Tabitha’s true intentions.

Eventually, Tabitha mentions that she had seemingly been tasked with saving the children in the tower. In fact, she’d gone to the lighthouse intending to do so, which is when From‘s Boy in White pushed her out the window and into Camden. Henry explains that his wife had said the same thing not long before she and the kids disappeared. Convinced by Tabitha’s story, Henry guides her into his basement, which is full of Miranda’s artwork. Much like Victor, Miranda painted everything she saw. However, she created the art well before arriving in the Township.
There are tons of Easter eggs and callbacks hidden within Miranda’s dozens upon dozens of paintings, but From‘s symbol is sure to catch viewers’ attention. At the end of season 2, Jade (David Alpay) takes Christopher’s notebook and heads into the tunnels. Instead of finding the sleeping monsters, Jade discovers ghoulish children writhing on stone slabs. Overhead, a knot of tree roots form the symbol. Like Christopher before him, Jade has been haunted by the symbol since arriving in Town. After appearing on the walls of the tunnels and in nature, the symbol now crops up in Miranda’s art.
6 The Children
The Pair Of Children That Haunt Tabitha & The Rock Slabs Both Appear In The Paintings
During season 2, Tabitha was haunted by the Ghoulish Children, who look to be in various states of decay. Most often, they would appear in her line of sight, but the strange kids in From also shout “Anghkooey” and touch Tabitha when she goes into the forest. Unlike the Boy in White, the children don’t offer much in the way of help. Instead, they seem to be the ones who need saving. Tabitha believes that they are the children who are locked in the tower, though she finds no evidence of that in the lighthouse.
There are also terrifying images of a demonic creature seemingly gobbling up the children.
Most of Miranda’s paintings feature the Ghoulish Children, with their dark eyes, wide stares, and dirty white clothing. Two of them often appear to Tabitha in true The Shining fashion, clutching hands and just staring. Based on her paintings, Miranda witnessed the same behavior. Eagle-eyed viewers will also be able to spot artwork depicting the children on stone slabs — the very same ones Jade encounters in the season 2 finale. There are also terrifying images of a demonic creature seemingly gobbling up the children, which also appeared on the walls of the tunnels that From‘s monsters call home.
5 The Diner
The Town’s Central Location Appears In Miranda’s Paintings
There aren’t too many notable locations in From‘s Town, but the diner is definitely a prominent hangout spot for the townspeople. Before her tragic death, Tian-Chen (Elizabeth Moy) ran the diner, cooking three meals a day for the people who live in the houses in Town. When people first arrive in the purgatory-like space, the diner offers some semblance of normalcy. The Matthews family is able to acclimate a bit better thanks to Tian-Chen’s hospitality, while Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and his family plot a new course of action in a diner booth upon arriving in Town.
Like other horror TV shows inspired by Twin Peaks, the diner in From is a touchstone. The diner also encapsulates the familiar strangeness of the Town, looking like something out of Middle America. The throwback vibe to the ’50s and ’60s also aligns well with the clothing that some of the creatures choose to wear. With its glowing neon sign, the diner is an unmistakable landmark for people arriving in the Town’s center. It’s not surprising that Miranda would have visions of the place long before arriving in the Township. For now, the diner’s truer purpose remains a mystery.
4 The Faraway Trees
Victor & His Mother Know The Mysterious Portal Trees Well
In some of From‘s earliest episodes, the Faraway Trees play a big role. While on a walk in the woods with Ethan (Simon Webster), Victor tries to show his newfound friend some of the Town’s peculiarities. Aside from the terrifying monsters that lurk around at night, the most notable supernatural feature might just be the Faraway Trees. So far, it’s not yet clear why Victor calls them that. It’s possible he read Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree novels series as a kid and adapted the name to fit the strange portal-trees that appear at various locations in From‘s woods.
While Boyd and Sara don’t spend too much time at the Bottle Tree, Victor brings Tabitha there, saying that the Bottle Tree’s portal leads to the lighthouse.
One of the Faraway Trees that recurs throughout the sci-fi horror series is the Bottle Tree. When Boyd ventures out into the woods with Sara (Avery Konrad) to look for answers, the duo stumble upon the Bottle Tree. Glass bottles hang from the tree, swaying like wind chimes. Inside each bottle is a note. While Boyd and Sara don’t spend too much time at the Bottle Tree, Victor brings Tabitha there, saying that the Bottle Tree’s portal leads to the lighthouse. Several of Miranda’s paintings feature the Faraway Trees, which have become one of the show’s most compelling mysteries.
3 The Lighthouse
From’s All-Important Tower Appears In Miranda’s Collection Of Paintings
The lighthouse, also referred to as the tower, has become one of From‘s biggest symbols and mysteries. That intrigue only deepens when Tabitha goes through the lighthouse’s portal and lands in Camden, Maine. Clearly, the lighthouse — and the Boy in White — wanted Tabitha to end up in Victor’s hometown and meet his father, Henry. That becomes abundantly clear when Henry shows Tabitha his late wife’s artwork. Much like Victor, Miranda painted or drew everything that she saw in her prophetic visions. Even so, the lighthouse stands out from other images.
Once Tabitha reveals that she was trying to save the children in the tower, Henry shares that Miranda had the same duty. On the night she died, Miranda left Victor (and Eloise) in the Town’s root cellar, hoping to keep them safe while she ventured to the tower. Henry believes that if Tabitha has the same visions as his late wife, she must be tasked with the same destiny. While the big reveal doesn’t necessarily solve any of the show’s mysteries, Miranda’s artwork might just hold some crucial information about what Tabitha needs to do next.
2 The Civil War Soldier
Jade’s Attacker Makes A Cameo In The From Season 3 Paintings
For a while, it seemed like the Civil War Soldier was going to become From‘s version of the polar bear from Lost — that is, a strange detail that winds up completely unaddressed and forgotten. The fact that the figure appears in Miranda’s paintings inspires a little more faith in From‘s larger plan, however. In the show’s very first season, Jade asks Jim (Eion Bailey) to help him with a hugely important task in the woods. Jade believes that they can construct a functioning radio tower, so the duo try to raise a makeshift antenna over the treeline.
While Jim is climbing the tree, Jade starts experiencing strange visions. The tree bark beneath his hand starts bleeding, and when he turns around, a soldier dressed in a Civil War-era uniform pops out of the meadow. The Civil War Soldier levels his rifle at Jade and fires before chasing the confused tech mogul through the woods. Ultimately, Jim finds a freaked-out Jade completely alone in the woods. The Civil War soldier’s true purpose has yet to be revealed, but could hint at the Town’s history. Unfortunately, Miranda’s paintings don’t reveal much more.
1 The Boy In White
From’s Most Mysterious Character Appears Several Times In Miranda’s Artwork
One of From‘s most intriguing characters is the mysterious Boy in White, who appears at least twice in Miranda’s collection of paintings. Initially, the Boy in White appears to Ethan, waving at him from the edge of the woods in a friendly manner. Of course, given the supernatural nature of the Town, it’s hard to trust that the Boy in White isn’t a malevolent force. Later, Ethan tells Victor that he saw the Boy in White, and Victor is surprised by the revelation. As a child, Victor also befriended the white-clad entity.
In From season 2’s finale, Tabitha also sees the Boy in White. Although she goes into the lighthouse expecting to free the Ghoulish Children, the young boy is the one waiting for her. The Boy in White apologizes to Tabitha for what needs to be done, insisting that the “only way” to help is to push Tabitha through the lighthouse window. This, of course, lands Tabitha in Camden. While it seems like the Boy in White is a benevolent spirit, his true nature is a mystery. Unfortunately, Miranda’s paintings do little to uncover the mystery in From season 3.
