Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball DAIMA continues to tell its lore to the world, and with each episode, the viewers learn something new about the Demon Realm. The recent episode continues to addict the viewers to the show, introducing more characters and teasing its fans that the series is going to feature more grand fights awaiting its enormous fanbase.
The show has started elevating its epic storyline, and they have done something that is not very Dragon Ball-like. Usually, Toriyama-Sensei’s magnum opus focuses its storyline on its primary protagonist, Goku, but in DAIMA, they have discarded that thought by bringing a new twist to its boring fight.
In episode 7 titled “Collar,” the Z-Fighters continued their quest to stop King Gomah, who used the seven mystical orbs to turn the fighters into kids. The series’ intriguing decision of sidelining Kakarot for the first time added a new charm, opening countless potentials and giving more screen time to different characters. Thus, taking the fans’ excitement to a whole new level.
Spoiler Alert !!!
The following article has spoilers from Episode 7!
Dragon Ball DAIMA’s Decision to Sideline Goku Is the Best
There’s no denying that Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise loves to give all the attention to its protagonist, Goku, who has been on his quest to become the strongest fighter in the entire universe. After all, he is the primary protagonist of the franchise that was first aired in 1984.
Time and again, Toriyama-Sensei has given him numerous iconic moments and memorable transformations that will leave a lasting impact on the minds of the viewers. For instance, Kakarot turning into a Super Saiyan for the very first time on Planet Namek to stop Frieza is still believed to be the most iconic and important moment in the entire franchise.
Though it’s fun to watch him battle strong foes and become a better version of himself, it felt quite monotonous to watch. Even in Dragon Ball Super, the Saiyan was the center of attraction, where he received yet another iconic transformation, Ultra Instinct. Nevertheless, fans grew tired of the same old story and wanted to see something new.
Well, it looks like Dragon Ball DAIMA heard its fans’ complaints because in the 7th episode, Kakarot was not featured in a fight. Instead, it decided to feature Shin in the spotlight, where he took part in the mook fight and Panzy managed to free her collar.
The idea of making Goku get less screen time will give other characters the room to grow was loved by the viewer as a fan page (@Herms98), shared their take on the episode that humbled Goku and added a fresh twist to its boring fight. The page tweeted,
Dragon Ball Daima, ep.7: Shin does stuff! Him joining the fray makes the umpteenth mook fight feel fresh, and freeing Panzy from her collar is a nice moment. Minimizing Kakarot’s screen time will allow other main characters like Supreme Kai, Bulma, Vegeta, and others to get that much-needed character development. Hence, it will solve one major problem that will be resolved easily.
DAIMA Will Be Important For Vegeta’s Growth
Despite fans’ claims that the Dragon Ball franchise is flawless, it has several shortcomings that limit its appeal to the fans. One is how it actively changes one of its main characters in the current show. However, another problem that surrounds the series is too much of one character.
In this instance, being the Saiyan and Supreme Kai, the fandom wants to see other characters too whom they have found to be more relatable to them. Though everyone will have a different answer, most of them would agree that Vegeta’s character is so layered and he is much more than a mere character.
The Prince of All Saiyans has often looked at Kakarot as his rival, who has actively helped him to grow stronger and break through his boundaries. However, with the show now focusing on other characters more, it will be a great idea to focus on the anti-hero and finally give him his first victory against a main villain in one of the arcs featured in the show.
Additionally, it is leaked that Vegeta might just have his SSJ3 form and surpass his eternal rival. This idea adds a new allure to the show, making them look forward to each week when the show continues with its plot.
Dragon Ball DAIMA can be streamed on Netflix.
