Saturday Night Stars Explain Lorne & Rosie’s Relationship

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

The cast members of Saturday Night discuss the film’s portrayal of the relationship between Lorne and Rosie. Saturday Night is an upcoming movie that tells the story of the creatin of Saturday Night Live from the perspective of Lorne Michaels and several other key players. It features a leading cast including Gabriel LaBelle, Rachel Sennott, Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt, Dylan O’Brien, Emily Fairn, Matt Wood, Lamorne Morris, Kim Matula, and Finn Wolfhard. The film is directed by Jason Reitman and set for release on October 11.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, actors Sennott and LaBelle discuss Lorne and Rosie’s relationship in Saturday Night. The actors were asked to talk about the love triangle going on in Saturday Night, when Lorne is insecure about the relationship with his wife. Sennott responded “it’s a Challengers vibe in this movie.” LaBelle added on information about how close Lorne and Rosie are, having grown up together. Sennott cycled back to the love triangle question specifically, saying that she “love[s] drama” and having two people fight over her. Check out the full quotes from Sennott and LaBelle below:

Rachel Sennott:
This Challengers vibe going on? Obviously, it’s a Challengers vibe in this movie.

Gabriel LaBelle:
I love the relationship Lorne and Rosie have together. I think they’ve just known each other since they were kids and grew up together. Lorne pretty much grew up in Rosie’s house, and they’re best friends [who] have been writing partners for years. I think it’s really fun to kind of tiptoe around that dynamic.

Rachel Sennott:
I love drama! And I also just love – I’m sorry, obviously I love when two people are fighting over me. You’re not even really fighting. [Lorne’s] sort of given up, or you’re like, “Go off and do your thing.” But you’re secretly pining, obviously. And we can all tell [Dan] honestly doesn’t actually care that much. He’s all over the place. He’s doing the same bit to every girl on the show. I’m like, “Do something else!”

But it was fun because I think what was interesting about it is, doing this job in acting or show business or whatever, it’s a job where you work these hours and you have different relationships with people than you would maybe in a different job. Things like that can happen, and there’s tension that comes from that. But at the same time, the show has to happen and we’re all working on that, and these things are just happening underneath. So, adding that layer was really fun.
