Jerod Mayo’s first season as the head coach of the New England Patriots hasn’t gone all that well, as he’s faced a lot of criticism as Bill Belichick’s successor this year, with the team struggling to finish out the year, winning only three games, following Week 12’s disappointing loss to the division-rival Miami Dolphins.
With the Dolphins being able to do virtually anything they wanted to do on Sunday in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium, Mayo has received a lot of backlash for the team’s effort, as fans of the storied franchise believe he should be fired after his first season as head coach.
After losing to the Dolphins, Mayo spoke to the media and took the blame for the Patriots’ ninth loss of the season via Patriots on CLNS Media.
“It starts with me,” Mayo said. “We’ve had these hiccups of games where the penalties really affect us.”

With the Patriots at the beginning of an extensive rebuilding process, it remains to be seen whether the team will want to make a change at head coach after the 2024 campaign comes to an end in a few months.
At this point in time, the team’s primary concern is the development of rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who has shown a lot of promise ever since becoming the team’s starter under center earlier this season.
Maye is shaping up to be a franchise quarterback for the Patriots, but they’ll want the right leadership to bring him along in the coming years.
