A supercomputer has dubbed Liverpool the team to beat after the Reds secured a hard-fought victory on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side obtained a narrow 3-2 win over Southampton on the South Coast after two second half goals from Mohamed Salah. The previous day, Manchester City suffered a 4-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad – their fifth defeat in a row.
The results saw the Reds go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after just 12 games in the campaign. Liverpool is very much in the driving seat in the title race, although there is a long way to go.
According to the latest Premier League supercomputer courtesy of Opta Analytics , Liverpool has a 69.5% chance of winning the Premier League this season. That’s increased from 60.3% after the last round of fixtures, meaning an increase of 9.2% after matchday 12.
City’s odds have drastically dropped after receiving an 82.2% probability to lift the trophy before a ball was even kicked. Before the international break, their probability was 34.3% and has dropped even further to 23.3%.
Arsenal’s win over Nottingham Forest saw their odds slightly increase from 5% to 6.5%. While Chelsea saw their chances of winning the league double from 0.3% to 0.6%.
With Liverpool making such a dominant start to the 2024-25 campaign by winning every single game bar one across all competitions and being top of both the Premier League and Champions League table , it’s natural that Reds fans are wondering what the season will hold.
The Reds faced scrutiny after entering arguably their toughest period yet and while the Reds still have Real Madrid and Arsenal to face, they’ve picked up points in every game as well sailing through to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool.com says: With Slot’s men on top form it’s hard not to get carried away with what could be, come the end of the season. However there is still a long way to go but so far everything tips in Liverpool’s favor.
