The “refreshing honesty” of Mary O’Rourke, who has died aged 87, tended to disarm people and hide the very astute politician underneath.
The former deputy leader of Fianna Fáil served as a senior minister in the departments of education, health and public enterprise. She was a junior minister for labour affairs and for enterprise and employment.
