After almost six seasons with the New York Giants, the team that selected him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, quarterback Daniel Jones is now a free agent.
He was released days ago after the team decided to bench him in favor of Tommy DeVito, and there are sure to be a handful of teams that will be interested in signing the veteran.
One team expected to be at the top of the list of suitors for Jones is the Minnesota Vikings, who are competing for the NFC North title with a 9-2 record.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell recently relayed some positive thoughts on the 27-year-old.
“I can just say that I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him,” O’Connell said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.

But with several teams expected to be interested, Jones reportedly will take some time before deciding which one to join.
“With a lot of moving pieces, Daniel Jones is not expected to make an immediate decision,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X.

Jones had decent production as a rookie in 2019, and later led New York to the playoffs in the 2022 season, but overall he has been a major disappointment, and by last season, fans and perhaps even the organization had given up on him.
He tore his ACL last season, and in 10 games this year, he threw for 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In all likelihood, his NFL fate from this point forward is as a backup, but if he joins Minnesota, perhaps he can find some inspiration from Vikings starting quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold, like Jones, was a very high draft pick several years ago but was dismissed as a bust, yet this season he has played at a Pro Bowl level and resurrected his career in the blink of an eye.
