Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah caused waves with comments he made on the south coast about his contract, with Jamie Carragher criticizing him for being “selfish”.

And the former Liverpool center-back says that while Salah would be inside his top five Reds players of all-time, the club will be able to “move on” from the Egyptian if he doesn’t agree a new deal. As it stands, Salah can freely speak to teams abroad about a pre-contract agreement in just 36 days.

“Mohamed Salah is in the top five players to ever play for this club,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football. “I would go Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush and Salah in fifth. That is how highly I rate him and how special he is.

“Steven Gerrard left the club and the next manager who came in won the title in Jurgen Klopp. When Kenny Dalglish left, Peter Beardsley came in and was part of probably the greatest football team in a red shirt.

“Graeme Souness left and Liverpool won the double two years later. Ian Rush moved on and Robbie Fowler came. Mo Salah will be missed if he moves on but Liverpool will move on, I can assure you.”

Liverpool.com says: Salah is right up there among the very best players to have played for the Reds, without a doubt. By the end of this season, at the rate he is finding the back of the net at the moment, Salah could move into the top three Liverpool goalscorers of all time. He is now within five of Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson (currently 18 ahead of him) will be in his sights.

Those records only make it even more logical for Salah to stay at Liverpool and continue at Anfield. An agreement should be possible when both sides ultimately should want him to stay. The bottom line is that there is nowhere else that he would rather play.
