A coroner’s jury recommended that a leading Irish hospital introduce electronic patient record keeping as a matter of urgency after a 34-year-old father-of-one died from a dissected aortic aneurysm after being misdiagnosed as having a suspected kidney stone.
Dr Patrick ‘Pat’ Murphy (34) had to travel to Cork University Hospital (CUH) by taxi with severe chest pain because an ambulance was not available and then, despite being triaged as a ‘category three’ patient, was not seen by a doctor for nine hours.
