Nayanthara Opens Up About Being Fat-Shamed After Ghajini

Actress Nayanthara poured her heart out in her documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale that chronicles her journey from her initial days in the film industry to stardom. In the documentary, she recalled one of the toughest phases in her career was when she was brutally trolled. It happened after the release of Suriya and her film Ghajini which became a huge success.

The film was remade in Bollywood with Aamir Khan and Asin in the lead roles. However, Nayanthara was body-shamed after the release of the film. Recalling the incident, she said, “The lowest point was the film Ghajini. There were days when I used to see all the comments, and people were like, ‘Why is she even acting? Why is she even there in the film? She’s so fat.'”

She continued, “You can’t say such things. You can talk about the performance part of it. Maybe, I was not good. But I was doing exactly what my director told me to do. And I was wearing exactly what he told me to wear. I was a newcomer, so I never had a say in it.”

Dhanush, who was the producer of the film denied them permission to use any still or music from the film. After waiting for two years for the actor to change his mind, Nayanthara and her team re-edited the documentary and used a behind-the-scenes still captured on their personal device.

In her letter, she called out Dhanush and accused him of festering vengeance against her. Dhanush is yet to respond to these claims.
