Property tycoon Ong Beng Seng is set to be charged on Friday (4 Oct).

His case is related to former transport minister S. Iswaran’s rare graft trial where the latter was convicted of accepting gifts from Ong.

Iswaran pleaded guilty to receiving valuable items from Ong, including an all-expenses-paid trip to Doha. He was sentenced to 12 months’ jail on Thursday (3 Oct).

According to court documents, Ong notified Iswaran when the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau seized the flight manifest for the trip. This led to Iswaran asking that Ong bill him for the flight.

Iswaran’s actions formed the basis of his obstruction of justice charge which he pleaded guilty to.

Ong faces one charge under Section 165, where he is accused of abetting a public servant in obtaining gifts, and one charge of obstruction of justice.
