Warning Signs Are Flashing for All the Chicago Couples

The honeymoon is over for Married at First Sight’s Chicago couples. And it’s possible their marriages are too. All five pairs are back in the Windy City after their Mexican vacations. As they try to adjust to a new reality as husband and wife, big warning signs are flashing for all the couples.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Nov. 26 episode of Married at First Sight.]

Michelle and David should call it quits

Michelle got the ick on her wedding day when David revealed that he was living with his parents. Her opinion about her new husband didn’t soften during the honeymoon. While he made a valiant effort to get to know her, she was standoffish.

Michelle and David made some small progress in the Nov. 26 episode. They actually seemed to be having fun together when they went stand-up paddleboarding. But being friendly doesn’t mean that Michelle is warming to David romantically. She made it clear she wouldn’t be sharing a bed with him when they moved in together in Chicago. Fortunately, David works nights, so hopefully that means he won’t be relegated to their apartment’s tiny couch.

Right now, it looks like Michelle and David won’t be spending much time together at all. While it would probably be best for Michelle to rip off the band-aid and walk away now, it’s possible that this marriage will limp along for some time, with Michelle and David acting more like roommates than spouses.

The vibes are off for Madison and Allen

We had high hopes for Madison and Allen based on the MAFS matchmaking special. But those appear to have been misplaced. While they’re getting along better than Michelle and David, fitness-focused Madison is finding it difficult to hide that Allen is not what she wants in a partner.

After they return home from the honeymoon, Madison tells her hubby that he’s not measuring up, appearance-wise. It’s a pretty uncomfortable conversation, where she basically calls him an out-of-shape slob with terrible fashion sense. The perfectly normal-looking Allen is obviously and understandably upset. But he tells her wants to look good for her while arguing that he is active, even though he’s not a gym rat.

Unfortunately, Madison already has one foot out the door. On their first night in their apartment, she heads out for drinks with friends, leaving a sad Allen to soak in the hot tub alone. At this point, it seems obvious that Madison will break Allen’s heart, even if she’s not one of the people involved in this season’s cheating scandal.

Things don’t look good for the other ‘MAFS’ couples

The other three MAFS Season 18 couples are also on shaky ground post-honeymoon.

Juan and Karla’s trip concludes on an awkward note. After Juan spends an afternoon bro-ing out with fellow cast member Thomas, he sits down for a romantic dinner with Karla. He tells her he didn’t think of her at all when she wasn’t around. The thoughtless comment seems like more of a foot-in-the-mouth moment than a case of Juan being a deliberate jerk, but Karla is understandably hurt. She’s set up a couples’ photo shoot for the next day, but the experience is more awkward than romantic, especially given Karla’s aloofness. Juan, to his credit, gets Karla to loosen up. Later, they agree they need to work on their communication. But it’s looking more like this pair’s initial spark will be dimmed by conflicting personality traits.

Emen and Ikechi might be husband and wife, but so far, their interactions are giving more polite colleagues at a work function than romantic partners. Neither seems to be that into the other person, despite their best efforts to build a connection, though Emen does cuddle with Ikechi one night as they’re going to sleep. At this point, they’re getting along fine, and it’s possible that love could grow, but the odds of them wanting to remain together after the eight weeks seem slim.

Finally, there’s Camille and Thomas. They’re the only Married at First Sight couple who seem to be actually having a good time on their honeymoon. But even they’ve hit a few speed bumps. Camille admits that her new husband is more “suburban” than guys she’s used to dating. She wants a guy with a little more “R&B smoothness.” But she also confesses that she might benefit by opening herself to a different kind of man.

Camille’s hesitation is weighing on Thomas, who opens up to her about his experience as a biracial kid who was picked on for not being “Black enough.” She’s understanding, but she also wants to take things slow. And like Madison, she also wants her man to step up his look. However, despite some challenges, Camille and Thomas are able to communicate like mature adults. They seem like the season 18 couple most likely to work through their differences and forge a successful partnership.

New episodes of Married at First Sight airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.
