Twelve-year-old Sadie Harpur was standing in front of her birth mother, the woman she had longed to meet her whole life, watching her dream of a happy ending fall apart in slow motion.
Along with her twin sister Kizzy, she had been taken into care as a baby. The girls had wonderful foster parents, but meeting their biological mother was something Ms Harpur (43) had long yearned for.
