‘Potential for thunderstorms’ on Monday – and temperatures to drop later in the week

Today will see outbreaks of rain, which will become heavy in the southwest, before turning mainly dry with sunny spells and isolated showers forecast.

The rain will clear to the northeast in the afternoon but another spell of rain will move into the west and southwest by evening.

Met Éireann has warned that some of the rain will be heavy at times in the southwest.

Highest temperatures will be from 13 to 17 degrees today, dropping to as low as 9 degrees overnight.

There will be sunny spells and scattered showers tomorrow, some of which will be heavy with the potential for thunderstorms.

Tonight, highest temperatures are from 14 to 17 degrees, dropping to 8 to 12 degrees during what promises to be a rainy night.

Tuesday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain over the eastern half of the country.

It will be brighter further west with sunny spells and showers, some of which may turn heavy.

And highest temperatures are from 12 to 16 degrees, dropping to 9 to 12 degrees overnight.

Wednesday will be cloudy for most with showery rain spreading from the north, with some heavy falls.

Any remaining rain will clear southwards on Thursday with sunny spells and showers following from the north.

The weather will become much cooler on Thursday.

“Brighter and cooler for Friday and the weekend with sunny spells and showers feeding from the northwest,” Met Éireann said ahead of next weekend.
