RTÉ workers are seeking a 6pc pay rise plus a €1,500 payment when their current wage deal ends next month.
The Trade Union Group confirmed it has lodged a claim for the flat rate increase of €1,500 plus 6pc “ with a view to having it in place at the end of November.”
When asked what timeframe the claim would cover, a spokesperson for the union group said it is a one year claim.
“All further details are subject to ongoing negotiations with management,” she said.
The union group said in a statement that having consulted affiliate unions and taking the guidance of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions into account, “we feel this is a fair and reflective claim in the current climate”.
“We are conscious of the particular pressures on lower paid workers, with the flat rate element providing a greater increase to them,” said the trade union group.
It said management is considering the claim and will revert back later in the month for further discussions.
The union group said any final pay offer will be put to a ballot of members.
Under the current pay deal, staff received a 6pc pay rise over two years.
There was a 3pc increase in January last year, backdated to December 26 2022, a 1.5pc increase on October 30 last year and a further 1.5pc on April 30 this year. As part of the agreement, staff received a non-taxable voucher of up to €1,000 last year and a further voucher of €500 in January this year.
Unions had lodged a claim for a 9.5pc pay increase, claiming there had not been an increase at RTÉ in 16 years.
They said it was necessary due to the rising cost of living, increased productivity and the extra efforts of staff during the pandemic.
An RTÉ spokesperson said it notes the pay claim submitted by the TUG to RTÉ today.
“RTÉ will consider this claim and revert to the TUG in due course,” he said.
