A 26-year-old content creator from England has died after trying to climb one of Spain’s tallest bridges.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, Talavera de la Reina’s Councillor for Citizen Security, Macarena Muñoz, confirmed the man had fallen while attempting to climb the Castilla-La Mancha bridge, per a release from the Mayor’s office on the city’s website.
According to the post, Muñoz said climbing the 630-feet-high structure was “totally prohibited and which we have reiterated on many occasions cannot be done under any circumstances.”

Per the statement, the person “was accompanied by another 24-year-old English man” at the time.
“As we have been able to find out, they had come to Talavera to climb the bridge and create content for social networks, which has resulted in this unfortunate and sad outcome,” the message from Muñoz added.
The release confirmed the judge and coroner had “already removed the body, which has been taken to the funeral home.”
Per a translated article by Spanish outlet Le Mundo, the incident occurred at 7:14 a.m. local time on Sunday morning.
According to the publication, the Castilla-La Mancha bridge is the “highest cable-stayed bridge” in Spain. It opened in 2011 and is around 70 miles west of Madrid.
A spokesperson for the U.K. Foreign Office said of the incident in a statement to PEOPLE “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities.”

A police spokesperson said of the man, per Metro.co.uk, “He was about 40 to 50 meters up, around a quarter of the total height of the bridge, when he fell.”
“The reason he fell is not clear and will be investigated by a local court,” they added.
A source told the outlet that the men climbing the bridge weren’t wearing “harnesses or other protection” at the time.
The Spanish police and the city of Talavera de la Reina’s office didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
