The 31-year-old, who died after falling from the third-story of his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires last night, attended the Mullingar singer’s tour on October 2.
He posted a video on Snapchat alongside his girlfriend Kate Cassidy ahead of him going to the Horan gig.
“I think we might just go and say hello. It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We’ve got a lot to talk about,” he said.
The former X-Factor contestant, who spent half a decade in the boy band One Direction with Horan, posted from the concert venue Movistar Arena, joking that he wanted to “square up some things” with his Irish friend.
While Payne had a difficult relationship with some of his former bandmates, he previously said there was no bad blood between him and Horan.
Ahead of attending the concert in the Argentine capital, Payne said he was looking forward to meeting the Niall again.
“I can’t wait to sing along to some old 1D songs with you,” Payne said in a video in a taxi on the way to the concert.
The Strip That Down singer spent the night singing and dancing along to his friend’s set list with his 25-year-old partner, captioning his stories “so proud”, followed by a post saying “what a great night” following the show.
He posted two pictures with Horan after the show.

“So happy I got to see Niall in concert,” he captioned a post on social media that night.
Payne was with his girlfriend in Argentina at the same time Horan was touring Latin America, which included shows across Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
Earlier yesterday, Payne had appeared to post on Snapchat about his trip in Argentina, talking about riding horses, playing polo, and looking forward to returning home to see his dog.
“It’s a lovely day here in Argentina,” he said in the video.
Emergency workers confirmed the death of the singer later that night, after he was reportedly found in the hotel’s interior patio.
His body was removed from the hotel as heartbroken fans of the singer and One Direction gathered outside on the street, where they held a vigil in mourning for the pop star and father-of-one.
