Marcus Mariota is seeing his first significant action of the 2024 season.
The Washington Commanders backup quarterback replaced injured starter Jayden Daniels late in the first quarter of their game against the Carolina Panthers. Daniels, the rookie who has been sensational in his first season, suffered a reported rib injury against the Carolina Panthers.
The Commanders initially said he was questionable to return.
Mariota came on for the Commanders’ following series. He ran around right end for four yards before he was sacked for a 4-yard loss. Following a false start penalty, Mariota’s deep pass attempt to wide receiver Dyami Brown fell incomplete.
Mariota only appearance of the season before Sunday was during mop up duty in the Commanders’ 34-13 Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns. He completed one of three passes for minus 2 yards.
