RTÉ bosses are in for a nervous fortnight. Toy Show The Election isn’t off the cards just yet. There’s still a slight chance of the general election happening on the same night as the Late Late Toy Show on December 6. It conjures up the wonderful prospect of David McCullagh and Sharon Ní Bheoláin dancing on to Patrick Kielty’s stage at 10pm to announce the results of the RTÉ election exit poll to the bemused children of the nation.
Dressed as Baloo from The Jungle Book, McCullagh will lead the sing-along with: “Look for the bare first preferences, the simple bare first preferences. Forget about your tallies and turnout strife.” In Mary Poppins mode, Ní Bheoláin will chime in with a showstopper routine: “Super-single-transferable-vote-statistics-in-proportional-representation-is-ferocious. Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious.”
