Most people will be familiar with Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch’s name. Once a suspect in some of the largest armed robberies in Ireland’s history, Hutch has been a figure synonymous with crime and controversy. That could all be about to change.
Hutch appears to be contemplating a considerable shift in his life – running for political office in the upcoming general election.
Rumours suggest that an alleged snub by Public Expenditure Minister Pascal Donohoe at an event may have sparked his political interest in becoming a member of the Dáil.
If he does decide to run for election, he will be fighting Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald and Mr Donohoe for a seat.
