I am the elections clerk in Clackamas County. Along with Washington and Multnomah counties, we are working to successfully conduct the first multi-jurisdictional ranked choice election in the country for the city of Portland municipal elections. I support ranked choice voting for our local jurisdictions that have chosen it.
However, I withhold support for the statewide ranked-choice proposal under Measure 117. This measure could negatively change how elections are conducted in Oregon, reducing election transparency, increasing voter confusion and delaying results at a time when trust in elections is lower than it has been in a decade.
