Kansas City Current soccer star Temwa Chawinga scores in any setting. She proved it again Friday evening in San Antonio.
The NWSL’s newly minted record-holder for goals in a season tallied two during the opening half of the 2024 Summer Cup final at Toyota Field, leading the Current to a 2-0 victory over Gotham FC in the championship match for the cross-border NWSL x Liga MX Femenil tournament.
The score was 2-0 by halftime. Chawinga, whose goals came in the 24th and 37th minutes, now has 23 goals across all competition this season.
Chawinga is the first National Women’s Soccer League player to score 20 goals in a single season. Friday’s brace was her fourth of the year.
