Yoshihiro Togashi created plenty of interesting characters for Hunter x Hunter, but only one of them dies and still lives to see another day. The character in question is Kite, an extremely powerful hunter who was also Ging Freecss’ student.
Togashi gave Kite one of the craziest developments ever because how many characters die and then literally get reincarnated? Kite has been loved by fans due to his blunt yet caring nature, but it has been some time since the character was witnessed in the series.
Yoshihiro Togashi Pulled Kite Out of His Grave (Not Literally)
In the Chimera Ant Arc, Kite was hired to do ecological research along with six other aspiring Hunters. Kite’s group then became engrossed in finding the origin of a washed-up Chimera Ant Queen arm in order to suppress the dangerous creatures. After a few successful initial battles, Kite has the bad luck of touching Neferpitou’s En. The next thing you know, Neferpitou makes quick work of Kite, and the only thing the latter could do was give Gon and Killua time to escape.
However, since Neferpitou enjoyed the battle, they kept the body to use as a training dummy. Soon after, an ant is born within the Queen after the birth of Meruem. Division Commander Colt swore to protect the child and raised the girl as a normal human being. The child grew rapidly, and eventually, it was revealed that she has all the memories of Kite.
The reincarnated girl is named Reina, and she also appears in the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc. It is revealed that she has received the status of a magical beast to keep her from being hunted down. Apparently, her survival was related to her past ability, Crazy Slots. Soon after, Reina looks older and has a talk with Gon, urging him to find Ging.
Kite/Reina is Yet to Make an Appearance in Hunter x Hunter‘s Latest Arc
The last time Kite/Reina was witnessed in the series was during the 13th Chairman Election Arc when Reina talked to Gon as the latter vowed to kill Neferpitou. The threat of the Chimera Ants has passed, however, Reina is yet to make her debut in the latest arc of Hunter x Hunter: the Succession Contest Arc.
Fans have no idea what Reina has been doing in the meantime and are dying to know her whereabouts. Reina might have tried to resume her old job as a Hunter and researcher and gone after other endangered species. On the other hand, Reina could also devote herself to the research on Chimera Ants.
Reina might come in handy soon as the series progresses. Yoshihiro Togashi is making progress on the manga despite his health issues. Fans hope that the author brings back Reina in the latest arc, as he was a pretty important character in both the lives of Gon and Ging. In fact, she is also sorely missed in the Dark Continent arc, as the plethora of unknown creatures and possibilities is sure to excite Kite/Reina.
Hunter x Hunter manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
