Caroline O’Doherty: Horror of Valencia floods reminds us we are hopelessly ill-prepared for climate crisis

Every year it seems a new disaster comes to emblemise the climate crisis just in time for the Cop global climate summit.

In 2022 it was the weeks of rainfall in Pakistan that left a third of the country under water. Last year it was the eerie sight of New York choked in a dirty brown haze from wildfires thousands of kilometres away. Now, just days from Cop29, we have a new symbol of the catastrophe that such summits have failed to prevent.
