Trump boasts of Joe Rogan endorsement while Megyn Kelly insults Harris family at rally: Election live updates

Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump are making their final pitches to voters on Monday, the last full day of campaigning before Election Day.

The vice president will be joined by celebrities Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, Ricky Martin, and The Roots in Philadelphia this evening as Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera support her in Pittsburgh and Las Vegas.

Trump is also concentrating on the Keystone State, delivering his “closing message” at a rally in Pittsburgh before one final rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan — where he closed out both his 2016 and 2020 campaigns.

During a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina earlier on Monday, Trump appeared to reference the infamous Access Hollywood tape which was published late in the 2016 campaign in which he said he could grab women by their genitals because of his fame.

Giving what was billed as his “closing message” in Pittsburgh, the former president brought his family on stage; repeated his idea for a wrestling league for migrants; and called Rep Adam Schiff “scum”.

Trump also announced he had been endorsed by podcaster Joe Rogan and was joined on stage by Megyn Kelly.

Election Day is finally on our doorstep, and Kamala Harris is suddenly looking stronger than ever.

A weekend of campaigning across swing states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia was overshadowed on Saturday by the political equivalent of a bomb going off. J. US intelligence agencies release new warning about Russian election disinformation

01:33 , Oliver O’Connell

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have released a statement warning about foreign interference in the election through the spread of disinformation:

“Since our statement on Friday, the IC has been observing foreign adversaries, particularly Russia, conducting additional influence operations intended to undermine public confidence in the integrity of U.S. elections and stoke divisions among Americans. The IC expects these activities will intensify through election day and in the coming weeks, and that foreign influence narratives will focus on swing states.

Russia is the most active threat. Influence actors linked to Russia in particular are manufacturing videos and creating fake articles to undermine the legitimacy of the election, instill fear in voters regarding the election process, and suggest Americans are using violence against each other due to political preferences, judging from information available to the IC. These efforts risk inciting violence, including against election officials. We anticipate Russian actors will release additional manufactured content with these themes through election day and in the days and weeks after polls close.

  • The IC assesses that Russian influence actors recently posted and amplified an article falsely claiming that U.S. officials across swing states plan to orchestrate election fraud using a range of tactics, such as ballot stuffing and cyber attacks.

  • Russian influence actors also manufactured and amplified a recent video that falsely depicted an interview with an individual claiming election fraud in Arizona, which involved creating fake overseas ballots and changing voter rolls to favor Vice President Kamala Harris. The Arizona Secretary of State has already refuted the video’s claim as false.

Iran also remains a significant foreign influence threat to U.S. elections. As noted in a prior update, we have assessed that Iran has conducted malicious cyber activities to compromise former President Trump’s campaign. Iranian influence actors may also seek to create fake media content intended to suppress voting or stoke violence, as they have done in past election cycles. We previously reported that Iran also remains determined to seek revenge against select former US officials whom it views as culpable for the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) Commander Soleimani in January 2020. It has repeatedly highlighted former President Donald Trump among its priority targets for retribution.

In light of continued influence efforts by foreign adversaries and the increasing volume of inauthentic content online, CISA recommends voters seek out information from trusted, official sources, in particular, state and local election officials.

The FBI and CISA encourage campaigns and election infrastructure stakeholders to report information concerning suspicious or criminal activity to their local Election Crime Coordinators via FBI field office (www.fbi.gov/fieldoffices), by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), or online at ic3.gov. Cyber incidents impacting election infrastructure can also be reported to CISA by calling 1-844-Say-CISA (1-844-729-2472), emailing [email protected], or reporting online at cisa.gov/report. Election infrastructure stakeholders and the public can find additional resources about how to protect against cyber and physical threats at CISA’s #PROTECT2024 (https://www.cisa.gov/protect2024).”

Will Arab American voters angry about Gaza cost Kamala Harris the election?

Monday 4 November 2024 23:45 , Oliver O’Connell

In the final days of her campaign, Kamala Harris is making a last-ditch appeal to Arab American voters who have abandoned the Democratic Party over the war in Gaza.

“I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, to bring home the hostages, end the suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel is secure and ensure the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination,” Harris told a rally in East Lansing, Michigan, on Sunday.

Harris’s urgency comes as recent polls of Arab American voters — usually a reliably Democratic voting bloc — show a large number may either stay at home or vote for her rival, Donald Trump.

Selzer’s surprise: Why the Roe reckoning may finally be here for Donald Trump

Monday 4 November 2024 23:30 , John Bowden

Election Day is finally on our doorstep, and Kamala Harris is suddenly looking stronger than ever.

A weekend of campaigning across swing states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia was overshadowed on Saturday by the political equivalent of a bomb going off. J. Ann Selzer, Iowa polling guru, dropped a late-game shocker: The Des Moines Register’s survey shows Kamala Harris up three points over Donald Trump in the state.

Is there suddenly a new state in play? Quite possibly — for all the bluster from the Trump camp Saturday evening and into Sunday about this being an “outlier”, it is only in the respect that other polls have been extremely careful to generously sample Republican-leaning constituencies throughout the campaign season. Selzer is sticking to her guns.

Could third-party voters spoil the 2024 election?

Monday 4 November 2024 23:15 , Joe Sommerlad

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s race for the White House is down to its final hours of campaigning, with most pollsters agreeing that the outcome remains much too close to call.

Top elections analyst Nate Silver has predicted that this year’s vote is “a toss-up” and could go either way, giving the Republican a 51.5 percent chance of winning to Harris’s 48.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the final pre-election New York Times/Siena College poll finds that the vice president is narrowly leading in the key swing states of Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Georgia, with her rival leading in Arizona while Pennsylvania and Michigan remain deadlocked.

All of a sudden, Montana — and Senate control — is slipping away from Republicans

Monday 4 November 2024 22:15 , John Bowden

One day out from Election Day 2024 and Republican control of the Senate is suddenly looking a lot less certain.

It had been seen as a near-inevitability by some for months. With the loss of West Virginia’s seat thanks to the retirement of Joe Manchin, the defeat of Jon Tester — the incumbent senator from Montana, who has been trailing his opponentTim Sheehy through the summer and fall — was set to throw the majority into GOP hands, unless Democrats unseated a Republican incumbent elsewhere.

‘He’s realizing that he could lose’: Harris’s people are confident. The Trump campaign is panicking

Monday 4 November 2024 22:00 , Andrew Feinberg

With just under 24 hours until Election Day, the contrast between the two campaigns — and the mood of their employees — couldn’t be more clear.

Harris, who just a few weeks ago appeared to have run out of the momentum she’d quickly gathered after President Joe Biden ceded the Democratic ticket to her this past July, is surging thanks to a series of late-game missteps by Trump and his allies. Those missteps include the disastrous decision to include a comedian who called Puerto Rico an “island of floating garbage” in the lineup at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally late last month.

“We’re going to get together again, but it’s going to be different. It’s not going to be a rally. It’s going to be applause for what we’re doing,” the former president said.

“These incredible rallies, and there may have been like 900 of them, a tremendous amount over nine years,” he added. “We celebrated 507 – it was a few years ago … I don’t know whatever it was, but it’s hundreds and hundreds, and they’ve been flawless, right? Every once in a while I make a little aggressive statement that people didn’t like, but don’t forget, I’m rarely on the teleprompter.”

“One of the indictments, he was upgraded in an airliner. Everyone gets upgraded. Anybody who’s got an upgrade, please raise your hand. You will be indicted,” the former president added. “I’ve been upgraded. I used to fly that way. They used to upgrade me all the time.”

Trump reflects on end of campaign

Monday 4 November 2024 17:19 , Gustaf Kilander

Reflecting on the end of the campaign, Trump said, “I won’t be doing this anymore with North Carolina, and I won’t be doing this anymore … after today.”

“I’m just thinking, as I’m going through this, that this will be our final moment, but … the more exciting moment is going to begin,” he added. “These moments of hundreds and hundreds of the most incredible rallies any country, no country has ever seen anything like that. But these moments that we’ve had together, these really were just to create what we hopefully will create tomorrow, which is we’re going to make America great again.”

Trump hits back at former chief of staff

Monday 4 November 2024 16:50 , Gustaf Kilander

Trump’s longest-serving Chief of Staff John Kelly has said that the former president fits the description of a “fascist.”

Trump responded on Monday, saying that he should have been fired and calling him a “disaster.”

The former president also said former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley “should have been fired.”

“All those generals – Kelly should have been, Kelly was such a disaster. Some people are good, some people are not good, some people are stupid,” Trump said.

Trump jokes that Biden voted for him

Monday 4 November 2024 16:41 , Gustaf Kilander

Trump joked on Monday that Biden “probably” voted for him because of what the former president said is his dislike for Kamala Harris.

“He actually hates my guts, but he likes Trump more than he likes Kamala,” he said.

“He just got 14 million votes,” Trump said in reference to the Democratic primary.

Trump responded to a member of the audience who suggested that Biden voted for him.

“That’s one of the ladies from North Carolina. She said he voted for me – probably did,” Trump said.

Trump repeats false FEMA claim

Monday 4 November 2024 16:30 , Gustaf Kilander

Trump once again made the false claim that FEMA funds were allocated to help undocumented migrants.

“FEMA did a horrible job. The administration – they’re still not there. You know why? Because they’ve spent all their money on bringing in murderers and a lot of people,” Trump said on Monday in Raleigh, North Carolina, speaking about hurricanes striking Florida, North Carolina, and other states. “They spent all their money on bringing in illegal migrants. They’ve also taken a lot of your jobs, especially jobs from the Black population.”

Trump appears to reference Access Hollywood tape

Monday 4 November 2024 16:21 , Gustaf Kilander

Trump appeared to reference the infamous Access Hollywood tape which was published late in the 2016 campaign in which he said he could grab women by their genitals because of his fame.

Discussing Elon Musk’s and SpaceX’s rocket boosters, Trump said, “And those two big arms, you saw the arms, they grab that thing like you grab your beautiful baby … Years ago, I would have said something else, but I’ve learned.”

He added: “I would have been a little bit more risque.”

Trump made similar comments over the weekend:

“Then you see those arms, like you grab your beautiful baby, your beautiful child … In the old days, I would have said like you grab your — girlfriend,” Trump said over the weekend.

“Now I don’t say that anymore. I say, like you grabbed your child. And those big arms came in and they grabbed that sucker and they held it in place like you grabbed your child. And I said, ‘That’s unbelievable’,” he added.

Trump claims to have had ‘great relationship’ with former president of Mexico as he announces 25% tariff

Monday 4 November 2024 16:06 , Gustaf Kilander

Trump claimed to have had a “great relationship” with the former president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“He was a socialist, but you can’t have everything,” Trump told the audience in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Trump said he may impose a 25 percent tariff on Mexico if he returns to office.

“Now we have a new president in Mexico, I suppose, a very nice woman … I haven’t met her, and I’m going to inform her on day one or sooner, that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I’m going to immediately impose a 25 percent tariff on everything they send into the United States of America,” Trump said.

Trump takes stage in Raleigh, North Carolina

Monday 4 November 2024 15:58 , Gustaf Kilander

Donald Trump has taken the stage at his rally in Raleigh, North Carolina.

He asked the crowd if they were better off than they were four years ago, to which the crowd responded with a thunderous “no.”

“I’ve asked that question so many times, I’ve never had one hand go up for the other,” Trump said.

Cardi B hits back at Kamala Harris speech critics in expletive rant

Monday 4 November 2024 15:40 , Lucy Leeson

Cardi B has fired back at critics over her Kamala Harris rally speech in an expletive rant.

The 32-year-old has faced backlash for using her cellphone to read her speech at the Vice President’s rally in Milwaukee on Friday (1 November).

The rapper, who previously hit out at Elon Musk for calling her a puppet who “can’t even talk without being fed the words”, posted a video on TikTok to respond to the criticism she received.

She said: “I worked so hard, bro. I worked so hard on my speech and a lot of y’all talkin’ about like “Oh why are you reading it from your phone?’

“B****, I had to write that s*** down.”

Trump crowd underwhelms again

Monday 4 November 2024 15:11 , Joe Sommerlad

We saw a sea of bored faces behind the former president at his events yesterday and the turnout for his first appearance of the day is not particularly impressive either, not what he would have wanted to see.

Trump is yet to take the stage despite advertising a 10am ET start.

Majority of Latino voters in Pennsylvania considered Puerto Rico joke racist

Monday 4 November 2024 14:00 , Joe Sommerlad

The fallout from Tony Hinchcliffe’s “floating island of garbage” crack at Madison Square Garden continues as a Univision/YouGov poll finds a majority of Latino voters in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania, which is home to 500,000 or so people of Puerto Rican heritage, consider the gag “racist rather than humorous”.

A further 67 percent say the gag is indicative of racism within the Trump campaign, 45 percent said it makes them “much more likely” to vote Harris and another 48 percent believe it will make “people they know” more likely to vote for Harris.

Trump says RFK Jr’s plan to remove fluoride from water ‘sounds OK’ as he refuses to rule out banning vaccines

Monday 4 November 2024 13:40 , Joe Sommerlad

Donald Trump has said that Robert F Kennedy Jr’s plans to ban fluoride from drinking water “sounds OK to me” as he also refused to rule out banning some vaccines if he secures a second term in the White House.

The Republican presidential candidate recently announced that he would give RFK Jr free rein to do “anything he wants” and “go wild” over health, food and medicines during his potential second administration.

One such plan floated by RFK Jr is to remove fluoride, a mineral used to prevent tooth decay, from the nation’s drinking water supply – and Trump appears to be on board.

“Well, I haven’t talked to him about it yet, but it sounds OK to me,” the former president told NBC News’s Dasha Burns during a phone call on Sunday.

“You know, it’s possible.”

Some of the names Trump is dropping regarding his prospective next administration are… interesting.

Conservative megachurch pastor endorses Harris: ‘She can pass a background check’

Pastor Dwight McKissic Sr of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, says that he hates abortion and is opposed to gay marriage but will be voting Democrat for the first time in 40 years tomorrow anyway.

Why?

“The GOP I loved would have never chosen as its nominee the adulterous, childish, habitually lying and criminally convicted Donald Trump.”

This observation might be even more damning: “There’s a scripture in the seventh chapter of Matthew that says a tree that doesn’t bear good fruit should be cut down and tossed into the fire. That’s how I think evangelicals should treat today’s Republican Party.”

His thoughts are well worth your time.

There is a great deal of search interest in the above question this morning but, so far, there appears to be no indication that the NBA legend will do any such thing.

It may just be wishful thinking on MAGA’s part, envious of Harris winning LeBron James’s influential vote last week.

Rather than resort to personal insults, as the Republican himself might well have done in the same circumstances, the VP offered a cool and dispassionate message to voters yesterday about the prospect of Trumpian mendacity coming into play on election night.

Trump struggles to energise North Carolina crowd with crude attacks

Monday 4 November 2024 12:00 , Joe Sommerlad

OK here’s one final collection of Trump clips from yesterday, this time in Kinston, North Carolina, his first of the day and at which he appeared just as exhausted as he did at his later events.

The Republican’s attacks on Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have been heard many times before and singularly failed to whip up the crowd.

The night before, he had been in Greensboro in the same state, where, under hellish red lighting, he welcomed a supporter’s offensive heckle about Harris.

Trump gets ‘equal time’ from NBC at Nascar rally after Harris SNL appearance

Monday 4 November 2024 11:40 , Joe Sommerlad

NBC gave Donald Trump’s campaign two free commercial slots on Sunday following a backlash over Kamala Harris’s Saturday Night Live appearance, with Republicans arguing that the network had flouted the Federal Communications Commission’s “equal time” rules by allowing the Vice President to appear but not the former president.

Trump took to the airwaves to deliver a bruising 60-second, pre-recorded message, which was shown towards the end of both Sunday evening’s Nascar playoff race and the big NFL Sunday Night Football game.

Sporting a red MAGA hat, Trump urged viewers to get out and vote just two days from election day, warning that Harris would trigger a “depression” across the US if she won.

Trump boasts sniper would have to ‘shoot through fake news’ to get him

Perhaps an even more shocking line from the Republican yesterday was this interlude about the prospect of reporters being shot by an assassin trying to get to him, a comment perhaps suggesting he has still not properly processed what happened to him in Butler on July 13, an experience that would be traumatic for anyone.

Trump says he should never have left the White House in 2020

Monday 4 November 2024 11:00 , Joe Sommerlad

Let’s get back to the Republican’s haggard performances on the campaign trail on Sunday.

We’ve already seen Trump in Georgia but, prior to that, Trump addressed a crowd in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and openly lamented leaving the Oval Office four years ago, STILL refusing to accept what was an overwhelmingly clear defeat by Biden that his associates fought to debunk in court and simply could not for want of evidence.

He also had some other disturbing remarks to make about climate change, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Obamas, asylum seekers and the bizarre fantasy prospect of college wrestlers battling illegal immigrants.

Here’s more from Rhian Lubin.

New York Times Editorial Board attacks ‘unfit’ Trump on election eve

Monday 4 November 2024 10:40 , Joe Sommerlad

Without mentioning Kamala Harris by name, the newspaper’s editorial board comes out strongly against the Republican nominee with the following statement:

“You already know Donald Trump. He is unfit to lead. Watch him. Listen to those who know him best. He tried to subvert an election and remains a threat to democracy. He helped overturn Roe, with terrible consequences. Mr. Trump’s corruption and lawlessness go beyond elections: It’s his whole ethos. He lies without limit. If he’s re-elected, the G.O.P. won’t restrain him. Mr. Trump will use the government to go after opponents. He will pursue a cruel policy of mass deportations. He will wreak havoc on the poor, the middle class and employers. Another Trump term will damage the climate, shatter alliances and strengthen autocrats. Americans should demand better. Vote.”

Given that rival outlets like The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and USA Today have controversially declined to offer an endorsement either way, this is strong stuff from the NYT.

Harris leading in four swing states in respected late poll

Monday 4 November 2024 10:20 , Joe Sommerlad

The Harris campaign is cheering the news that its candidate has taken a marginal lead in several key swing states in the final New York Times/Siena College poll, making gains in Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Georgia.

Harris leads Trump by 49 percent to 46 in Nevada, 48 to 46 in North Carolina, 49 to 47 in Wisconsin and 48 to 47 in Georgia, which means it all remains extremely tight down there.

Trump, meanwhile, is thought to be ahead by 49 to 45 in Arizona and, perhaps most agonisingly of all, the two candidates remain deadlocked in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Here’s the very latest from Rachel Sharp.
