The Holywood man sits three shots off leader Matteo Manassero after a bogey-free 66 on Saturday, as does 2021 winner Billy Horschel.
Manassero has been in sensational form, however, his nine-under 63 moving him to 18 under. The 31-year-old won this tournament as a 19-year-old in 2013 – a year before McIlroy’s title – but his career subsequently went into serious decline and he dropped as low as 1,805th in the official world rankings.Â
Finishing third in the Irish Open at Royal County Down a week ago, Verona native Manassero has moved up to 101st and success here would be a remarkable achievement.Â
