While exploring the Lost Isles in LEGO Fortnite, players will want to find and use Tomes: readable books that unlock new Runes and Prop blueprints. Runes are incredibly useful for improving weapon stats and adding buffs, while new Prop blueprints provide new items and decorations with a bit of flair for avid settlement builders. However, Tomes are also rather hard to find.
To engage with this new content, players will need to hop on a Battle Bus and travel to the Lost Isles. There are two different types of Tomes: Klombo Rune Tomes and Klombo Prop Tomes. Rune Tomes provides new weapons and items Runes, while Prop Tomes provides new building items. However, the two Tome types can drop from different locations, so players must explore far and wide.
How To Find (& Use) Rune Tomes In LEGO Fortnite
Find Recipes For Weapon And Item Runes
The best way to find Rune Tomes quickly is to find and loot the golden chests in the Floating Islands biome.
Rune Tomes only seem to drop from chests in the Floating Islands and appear to drop 100% of the time when chests in the Floating Islands are looted. Due to LEGO Fortnite’s use of random world seeds, it isn’t possible to provide specific locations for golden chests, but they’re generally straightforward to spot and are scattered everywhere throughout this biome.
To reach the Floating Islands, either build up to them using gathered materials,
build a Balloon Platform
, or find a geyser and use it to launch into the air. Equipping a Glider is also highly recommended, as it’s an excellent way to navigate between different floating islands.
Based on some quick testing I did in my LEGO Fortnite world, Rune Tomes don’t appear to drop from defeated enemies or the chests at enemy bases, such as Pirate Towns. As such, the only way to obtain Rune Tomes appears to be looting chests in the Floating Islands. When read, Rune Tomes unlocks a single random Rune recipe.
Unlocked Runes can appear randomly when players are rolling for Runes at a Rune Forge. Runecrafting in LEGO Fortnite involves building and placing a Rune Forge workbench. Players can add up to three Runes to weapons and items at the Rune Forge. However, the Runes players can add are chosen at random from a pool.
Adding Runes also requires Essence, a common material obtained by defeating enemies, harvesting materials, and destroying structures. Players can spend Essence to reroll for Runes at the Rune Forge.
As such, reading a Rune Tome expands the pool of available Runes that can be added to weapons and items.
How To Find (& Use) Prop Tomes In LEGO Fortnite
Unlock New Props And Decorations From The Salty Seaport Set
Finding Prop Tomes is slightly more complicated, as they appear to drop from multiple sources but are considerably rarer. Prop Tomes can drop from the same golden chests as Rune Tomes; however, they don’t drop as often.
According to Banzai2469 on Reddit, they can also spawn in chests in other areas, such as inside Pirate Camps and Grottos. One particularly fun interaction noted by some players involves feeding Roasted Klomberries to the giant Klombo, who has a low chance of spitting out a Prop Tome when fed.
The main takeaway is that players should explore far and wide to find Prop Tomes, as they appear to spawn from many different sources but have an extremely low overall drop rate.
When read, Prop Tomes provides a random blueprint for one of the many furniture items in the Salty Seaport set. This set contains a wide variety of blueprints, including pirate-themed buildings and a massive assortment of pirate-themed furniture items. Given how prominent pirates are in the Lost Isles, this gives players a chance to build some fun-themed settlements with themed furniture for maximum immersion.
Luckily, most players are likely to find that Rune Tomes are more important to their overall survival in the Lost Isles. Prop Tome decorations are nice to have, but like most cosmetic content in LEGO Fortnite, they’re ultimately inessential. Their rarity means that players are most likely to be successful at finding them when sharing a LEGO Fortnite world with friends, who can join the search for these incredibly rare items.
