Yankuba Minteh has returned to action after injury.
But he will not be heading to AFCON finals with Gambia next season.
The Albion winger went on as substitute at half-time in a 2-1 defeat by Comoros.
That results means Gambia go into the final group fixture knowing they cannot qualify.
Minteh has not played in recent Seagulls fixtures but was allowed to travel for the make-or-break international fixtures and trained well during the week.
It now remains to be seen whether he plays in the final game, which has become a dead rubber.
Gambia are coached by Northern Irishman Johny McKinstry, who sees a bright future for Minteh, 20 and colleagues.
He said: “Some of the young guys who are 20, 22, 24 years old, the future is super bright for this Gambia team.
“I think this defeat is also going to be sort of that future.
“That disappointment, that suffering becomes part of your DNA and you use it to be successful in the future.”
Minteh last played for Albion in their 3-2 win over Tottenham six weeks ago.
Simon Adingra played the first half as Ivory Coast lost 1-0 away to Zambia but both teams are heading to the finals.
