Inside Out 2 is finally streaming on Disney+ as of September 25, 2024. The Pixar movie hits Disney’s streaming service 103 days after its debut in theaters. That is longer than Disney’s average gap, but it stays true to the promise that Inside Out 2 would play in theaters for at least 100 days before releasing on streaming. Now, there is an opportunity for audiences to watch Inside Out 2 on Disney+ and experience Riley’s journey.
As if it was not already clear based on Inside Out 2‘s reviews and Rotten Tomatoes scores, the movie is absolutely worth watching. It is an excellent examination of being a teenager and the different anxieties and fears that come along with that. Inside Out 2 keeps its focus squarely on Riley’s emotional state and how the introduction of Anxiety, Envy, and other new emotions – as well as the disappearance of her original five emotions – change her as she hopes to fit in with the “cool” kids at her hockey camp.
While Amy Poehler’s Joy is still very much at the center of Inside Out 2‘s story, it really is Maya Hawke’s Anxiety that is the heartbeat of the film. The entire conflict is built around her, and the effects of anxiety on Riley come to a head in the final act. Inside Out 2‘s anxiety attack scene during the hockey scrimmage is an accurate representation of those moments in real life, which has made it one of the standout and most affecting moments of the entire film. Whether you have anxiety or know someone with it, it’s an incredibly moving sequence.
