Back 4 Blood 2 could be on the way as mysterious new clues point to FPS sequel

Dying Light 2 has been getting better and better, State of Decay 3 is in the works, and Left 4 Dead 2 recently celebrated its 15th anniversary – it’s been a good year for the zombie FPS genre. But what about Back 4 Blood? From Turtle Rock, the studio that worked within Valve on L4D, it’s been quietly successful on Steam for the past four years, but never hit the heights of its spiritual predecessor. The player count is consistent. The user reviews range from positive to mixed – maybe, if Turtle Rock had the chance to make a new Back 4 Blood, it could remedy all the little (and not so little) problems that muted its debut. Based on some telling new clues, that might be about to happen. Back 4 Blood 2 could well be in the works.

The last time we reported on Back 4 Blood, the zombie FPS game was enjoying a brief revival on Steam with more than three times its average amount of concurrent players. Now, there’s reason to believe a sequel is in the works. It starts with the résumé of one Jesse Hutch, an actor and stunt performer whose credits include Dead By Daylight and Gears of War. Also on Hutch’s résumé is something called ‘Gobi 2,’ which is apparently being created by Turtle Rock.

That on its own might not seem like much, but as reported by mp1st, if you check out Back 4 Blood’s update history on SteamDB, you will find that a previous version of the zombie game, possibly a pre-launch build used for testing, was assigned a codename: ‘Gobi.’

So, we have a stunt performer who has worked on videogames, and they are apparently working on a new project with Back 4 Blood creator Turtle Rock, and that project has the same codename as the original Back 4 Blood except with a ‘2’ on the end.

The theory certainly fits, but we will have to wait and see. Meanwhile, Left 4 Dead 2 recently celebrated its birthday in style.
