Ares Might Just be the Thing That Stops Fans from Trolling the Jared Leto Casting

It has been years since humans last forayed into the Grid. But all that is in the past now. As Jared Leto looks set to take over the mantle of the sci-fi world in the upcoming Tron sequel, Tron: Ares, fans of the sci-fi game will be really hyped.

It is no secret that the news of Jared Leto joining the movie had cast a doubt on many people’s minds about its prospects. The Suicide Squad star might be an Academy Award winner, but that doesn’t change the fact that his recent track record leaves much to be desired. But Tron: Ares might just have the ammunition to tide over the crisis.

With more than a decade under its belt ever since Tron: Legacy hit theatres, fans were left excited once the news of the much-anticipated sequel went official. After all, it would be just the third entrant into the franchise over its 4-decade long history.

With Joachim Rønning set to don the director’s hat, and a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, Tron: Ares looks destined to be something special, building on the legacy laid down by the first two flicks.

While Jeff Bridges is rumored to reprise his role as the OG Kevin Flynn, there is one noticeable change in the guard. Bruce Boxleitner is no longer the sentient program. That mantle has now fallen on Jared Leto‘s shoulders.

Though the Dallas Buyers Club star’s pedigree is incomparable, his name has invited its fair share of scorn from fans. That is what being associated with Morbius brings you. But the 2025 flick might have found the key to reinventing itself.

Jared Leto isn’t the only new thing about the Tron franchise. A new player is set to join the cohort Nine Inch Nails. The rock band is all set to take over the mantle of producing the soundtrack from Daft Punk, who were on board for Tron: Legacy.

Sharing his views on the change, director Joachim Rønning believes that might just be the catalyst that the franchise needs to reinvent itself. He told Empire,

“With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this instalment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial. It’s been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new Tron world that we are creating.”

The band has a rich history when it comes to rock music, having dropped bangers like Wish and Happiness in Slavery. He continued,

“What I always look for in any story is a strong emotional core. This film will probably be more emotional than people are expecting. It’s about the cost of being human.”

The sound track might just propel the movie to new heights (and especially towards a more gritty tone). Tron: Ares is all set to hit theatres in the US from 10 October, 2025.
