Joshua Zirkzee has endured a difficult start to his life at Manchester United. The Netherlands international has scored just one goal for the Red Devils since completing his summer move from Bologna.
The 23-year-old was in-demand after a terrific 2023/24 season in Italy. Zirkzee scored 12 goals to help Bologna qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Following interest from Arsenal and AC Milan, United secured the striker’s services for just over £36million. He arrived in July as Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer but the move hasn’t quite worked out yet.

The former Bayern Munich star has scored only one goal for United and has seen his minutes decrease since the return of Rasmus Hojlund. After coming off at half-time in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham in September, Zirkzee has not started a game for United.
Ruben Amorim’s appointment has led to speculation over the Dutchman’s future at the club. So with that in mind, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest news on Zirkzee ahead of the January transfer window.
Italy return ‘on the cards’
After enjoying life in Italy with Bologna, Zirkzee has been tipped to secure a return to south Europe when the window reopens. Italian outlet Calciomercato have claimed that Juventus are considering a move.
Thiago Motta, who managed Zirkzee at Bologna, is said to be considering signing a new centre-forward amid uncertainty over Dusan Vlahovic’s future.
January exit ‘asked’ for
Following their report of Juventus’ interest, Calciomercato reported this week Zirkzee has asked to leave the club when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The report states that Zirkzee has instructed his agent to find him another move in the winter with Juventus a potential destination.
Gyokeres impact
New United boss Amorim has already ruled out a transfer raid on former club Sporting CP in January but moves for their top players are expected to be considered at the end of the season.
Viktor Gyokeres is one player linked with following Amorim to Old Trafford and should Zirkzee be allowed to leave United, the Sweden international’s services will likely be at the top of Dan Ashworth’s list.
