With the Naruto series being utterly focused on the titular protagonist, some of its most important and interesting characters have gotten lost in the background. Konoha 12 might be a big name for a big team but a significant number of them don’t get a lot of screen time or a chance to have their lore explained.
Some Reddit users took it into their own hands to imagine which 3 would get their own spinoff and many agreed Team Guy have been horribly overshadowed. Team Guy, sometimes known as Team Gai, deserves much more screen time and chances to shine.
Team Guy is led by Might Guy and consists of Neji Hyuga, Rock Lee and Tenten. The biggest argument for why they deserve their own spinoff is the value of both Rock Lee and Neji as fan favorites and character depths and Tenten would get a much-deserved character arc which she lacks in the main series. While all of the Konoha 12, minus the main trio, deserve spinoffs, let’s explore why one about Team Guy is a need.
Team Guy All The Way: Why They Deserve a Naruto Spinoff
The charm of Team Guy lies in the blend of personalities and the natural chemistry of the 3. Neji and Rock Lee in particular have very complex character arcs but Tenten leaves much to be desired, despite having some powerful moments. Overall, their camaraderie, humor, and resilience have made fans melt, who see their bonds as one of the purest examples of friendship in the Naruto universe. They are also mentored by one of the strongest characters, making them a formidable team.
Rock Lee, the taijutsu specialist with boundless energy, is one of Naruto’s most beloved characters. Unlike most of the Konoha 12, Lee cannot use ninjutsu or genjutsu, which makes him an oddity in a world where these abilities are highly valued. However, his fight with Gaara made him an instant favorite but his arc is far from complete in the eyes of the fans.
On the other hand, Neji Hyuga is a character of tragedy and growth. He initially resents his cousin, Hinata, and the Hyuga clan structure but makes his own name as a prodigy and protector. His time on Naruto was, unfortunately, limited and abrupt. This is exactly why we deserve a spinoff with him included to make us also feel more impacted by his loss.
Now comes Tenten. Masashi Kishimoto is notorious for writing women badly and she comes under this curse. She has so much untapped potential that is left unexplored and a spinoff would be the perfect opportunity to finally do justice to her character.
Team Guy: Will A Spinoff Ever Happen?
A Team Guy spinoff would also fully flesh out these characters that we haven’t seen much of beyond battle. It could delve into their individual paths and how they perceived their duties and lives. Rock Lee would definitely sell very well in a spinoff, much more than how the Boruto series might be doing.
Still, is it likely that Team Guy will get a spinoff? With how lengthy Boruto is turning out to be, Kishimoto doesn’t have a lot of time to delve more into other characters. It doesn’t mean Rock Lee, Neji Hyuga and Tenten aren’t deserving of a spinoff.
