Nvidia graphics card rumors are back on the menu, as the first leaks surrounding the new RTX 5070 Ti gaming GPU have surfaced. If this rumor is true, the 5070 Ti is getting a decent boost in power over its predecessor, the RTX 4070 Ti.
The Ti models have gone through the wringer with the RTX 40-series. Originally slated to be the 4080 12GB, the first one was quietly “unlaunched” and then rebranded as the RTX 4070 Ti. This card was quickly overshadowed about a year later, as Nvidia released the RTX 4070 Super, which we’ve classed as the best graphics card for most.
This latest leak comes from well-known leaker Kopite7kimi (via VideoCardz), and claims that the new GPU would clock in with 8,960 CUDA cores and a 300W TDP. This looks like a step below the RTX 4080, which comes in at 9728 CUDA cores and 320W, but it should be noted that it’s also likely to come with much faster GDDR7 VRAM. This is also a step up from the RTX 4070 Ti Super, which has 8,448 CUDA cores.
However, the leaked specs leave out key information, including how much memory will be fitted to the RTX 5070 Ti as standard. The RTX 5070 is allegedly planned to launch with 12GB, which stirred the hornet’s nest online when the information leaked. Consensus is slowly solidifying around the need for a minimum of 16GB to be worth the upgrade or money as games get more demanding.
Kopite7kimi also leaked that the 5070 Ti is planned to be built on the same die as the RTX 5080, GB203. The rumored CUDA core difference puts the 5080 at 20% more cores, at 10,752. While it’s obvious that the lower-end card would be weaker, Nvidia’s pricing will ultimately determine its success.
The maligned 4070 Ti was originally launched in 2023 for $799, which was deemed too expensive for what it was providing, especially with just 12GB of VRAM. Let’s hope the RTX 5070 Ti at least comes with 16GB of VRAM and a half-reasonable price.
Nvidia is expected to announce the details of its upcoming RTX 5000 GPU range at CES 2025 in January. We’ll hopefully find out then if the price of upgrading to get the latest updates on features such as Nvidia DLSS will be worth it.
