Just as he has called time – for now at least – on the international careers of three players who have 112 caps between them but are surplus to requirements, Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson is finding out, the hard way, how little time he has to put things right.
And he’s also faced the reality check of just how shallow the pool of Irish talent is right now.
