If there was a lot of buzz about John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks after they beat up a beat-up Kansas team in their first exhibition, what will be the buzz about the Hogs after they blew a double-digit lead to lose to TCU?
Arkansas led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter. When things got tight in the fourth quarter, the Razorbacks missed shot after shot after shot.
Arkansas missed 8 of its final 9 field goal attempts and was scoreless for the final 3:28.
TCU’s Brendan Wenzel hit a three-pointer with 18.8 seconds on the clock to give the Horned Frogs the lead, their first since the first quarter.
“We had every chance to win the game at the end. They made the plays and we didn’t. We took tough shots, and they were trying to get fouled and get to the rim,” Calipari said after the loss.
“My challenge will be, ‘Let’s learn how to win.’ We took a 1-on-3 shot with the ball up. We took a three from our 5-man. What would you do that for? We turned it over on a lob because we look away when we throw it. So I got work to do.”
Coach Cal: Not a fan of Big Z threes. See how the final few seconds unfolded:
Adou Thiero led the Razorbacks with 20 points, 18 of which came in the first three quarters. Boogie Fland added 11 points.
Less than 5,000 people were in the 14,000-seat Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth for the exhibition game. A couple of Kentucky fans did make it into the game. KSR has been told that one of these Pope-clad Kentucky fans attends TCU and was raised in BBN as the son of a Kentucky native. Gotta love the passion.
