Brenden Anes details decision to flip from Wisconsin to Tennessee’s Linebacker brotherhood

Brenden Anes made his way to Tennessee earlier in the month for the Florida game under the radar, and the Vols have remained on his mind since. Moments ago, he flipped his commitment from Wisconsin to the Vols and detailed the decision with Volquest.

The relationships at Tennessee and the consistency of which the Vols recruited him despite his commitment to the Badgers was key in his decision to flip to Rocky Top.

“Coach Heupel, Coach Inge, they have done a really good job of recruiting me over the past year,” he said. “I have had a couple of sit-downs with Coach Heupel over the past year, and they have told me I am what they are looking for at linebacker and I fit the profile they look for as a character profile and as a player.”

Inge got his man with Anes’ commitment.

Anes’ bond with Tennessee Inside Linebackers Coach William Inge is strong, and the way the veteran assistant coaches up his players played a key part in his decision as well.

“Coach Inge is a really cool guy,” Anes said of the relationship with Inge. “He has got some funny sayings that will catch you off guard. I love his coaching style. He is like a teacher in a sense. He is going to coach you up and lift you up.”

Josh Heupel’s approach was also key with the in-state standout and his decision to stay in the Volunteer state and we are orange.

“He is a really down to earth guy and really laid back guy,” Anes said of Heupel. “He is easy to converse with. A lot of Head Coaches can act weird around recruits. He doesn’t. He is himself. He is a really cool guy that is going tell you the truth and shoot you straight. Those are the things I like about him.”

Now with this final decision behind him, Anes can look forward to finishing his career on a high note and attempting to win an elusive state championsip.

“It is like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” Anes said of this. “My heart is set. It is huge for the program at Page. We are going to come out hot this Friday and go out in the playoffs and win a state championship.”
