Organizations linked to workers in the Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) released a note, this Monday morning (18), in response to the possibility of appointing members of the center to command the state bank.
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), stated that the bloc of parties that joined the base of the federal government, such as PP and Republicans, will be the political group that will nominate names for positions at Caixa Econômica Federal.
Lira confirmed that the PP is officially part of the base of the Lula (PT) government in the Chamber of Deputies, this Sunday (17), in an interview with the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. “President Lula chose this way of forming his base, bringing the parties to take up space on the Esplanada dos Ministérios”, said the deputy.
The congressman also stated that today there is a base calmly in the Chamber of Deputies for the government. With the recent accession, the government now has approximately 350 votes in the House. “The agreement was broader, it involves other parties, it involves other compositions. There is part of the PL that wants to be part of it and is already voting with the government,” said Lira.

After negotiations that lasted for months, Lula carried out a ministerial restructuring in his government, allocating members of the center in exchange for political support in the National Congress.
With the reform, vice-president Geraldo Alckmin’s party, the PSB, lost ground. Federal deputy Silvio Costa Filho (Republicanos-PE) will take the place of Márcio França (PSB-SP) in the Ministry of Ports and Airports. In the same vein, with the departure of Olympic medalist Ana Moser from the Ministry of Sports, there was a reduction in the presence of women at the highest government level. Moser gave way to André Fufuca (PP-MA), leader of the party’s bench in the Chamber of Deputies.

For organizations linked to employees of the state bank, however, Caixa cannot be the center’s trading bank. “Caixa, in 2017, was the target of complaints and investigation by the MP (Public Prosecutor’s Office) due to the practice of physiologism, with wide coverage in the press and deterioration of the bank’s image, which resulted in statutory changes, requiring a selection process for management positions.”
“Now, in a government elected with the support of workers, this same group is trying to make history repeat itself as a farce. The president of the Chamber, Artur Lira, thinks that Caixa is the famous ‘su Joaquim’s bakery’, an allusion used by his great friend and ally Pedro Guimarães, former president of Caixa. He claims across all four corners, across the country and abroad, that he commands more than the federal government and that he will put whoever he wants in charge of the bank and that he will distribute positions among politicians, like a xepa,” the organizations say.
“The State Law, statutes and other regulations prevent this practice. Furthermore, Brazilian society, employees, retirees and customers will not allow the handover of this important public asset for physiological use to serve vested interests”, say the organizations.
The letter is signed by the Association of Lawyers of Caixa Econômica Federal (Advocef), National Association of Pledge Appraisers of Caixa Econômica Federal (Anacef), National Association of Engineers and Architects of Caixa Econômica Federal (ANEAC), Caixa Econômica Staff Association Federal of Rio Grande do Sul (APCEF/RS), Association of Managers of Caixa Econômica Federal (AGCEF), National Association of Internal Auditors of Caixa Econômica Federal (AudiCAIXA), National Confederation of Workers in Credit Companies (CONTEC Brasil), Federation National Association of Caixa Managers (FENAG) and SOCIAL CAIXA.
