Following Tracy Spiridakos’ exit after the season 11 finale, Chicago PD season 12 adds a couple of new names to the show’s cast list and brings back many familiar stars. The NBC police procedural series, created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, revolves around the Intelligence Unit in the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department. Led by Sergeant Hank Voight since the beginning, Intelligence has experienced many changes over the years (e.g. Detective Hailey Upton leaving Chicago PD), and, yet, five original actors remain in the Chicago PD season 12 cast.

cast members no longer on the show are Sophia Bush as Erin Lindsay, Jesse Lee Soffer as Jay Halstead, Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson, Elias Koteas as Alvin Olinsky, and Archie Kao as Sheldon Jin.
After the events of the Chicago PD season 11 finale, Voight and the remaining Intelligence Unit members try to adjust to working without Upton in season 12. They try replacing Spiridakos’ character’s spot on the team but run into some trouble. Meanwhile, Voight deals with personal issues that bleed into his work life, as displayed during the Chicago PD season 21 premiere.

Jason Beghe As Hank Voight
Date Of Birth: March 12, 1960
Actor: Jason Beghe was born in New York City, and later graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California. He started his career as a model before he made his feature film debut playing a small role in Compromising Positions in 1985. Beghe’s breakthrough came when he starred in the science fiction psychological horror movie Monkey Shines. However, Beghe is most known for his role as Sergeant Hank Voight in Chicago PD on NBC.

Patrick John Flueger As Adam Ruzek

Actor: Patrick John Flueger was born in Red Wing, Minnesota, where he grew up and graduated from high school. His first acting job came when he was only 18 years old, and it’s one of his more known roles. Flueger starred as Jeremiah Hart alongside Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries in 2001. Following his breakthrough, Flueger landed several guest-starring parts in TV shows such as CSI: Miami and JAG before he started playing Shawn Farrell in The 4400 in 2004.

Character: Chicago PD season 12 begins with Flueger’s Officer Adam Ruzek working at the Intelligence Unit alongside his friend from the police academy, Detective Emily Martel. The two are seemingly close as Martel even has a nickname for Ruzek that he absolutely hates — Ruzey. Spoilers ahead! Unfortunately, Ruzek witnesses Martel die right in front of him at the end of episode 1. As the season continues, Ruzek will likely be dealing with his grief, while also planning his wedding.
Marina Squerciati As Kim Burgess
Date Of Birth: April 30, 1984
Actress: Marina Squerciati was born in New York City and later graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in theater. After college, Squerciati worked in theater before transitioning to the screen. Her first role in a feature film was in It’s Complicated, a 2009 Meryl Streep movie. Squerciati’s true breakout role was as Alessandra Steele in Gossip Girl season 5, though, before she became known for starring as Officer Kim Burgess in Chicago PD​​​​​​.

Character: Sadly, Burgess is absent during the Chicago PD season 12 premiere because she is attending a NAWLEE (National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives) out of town. Squerciati’s Burgess returns to Chicago in episode 3 after episode 1’s tragedy. Burgess will have some happy moments in season 12, though, as she is planning her wedding alongside Ruzek. According to showrunner Gwen Sigan’s interview with TV Insider, a wedding between Burgess and Ruzek is in the cards for the back half of the season.
LaRoyce Hawkins As Kevin Atwater
Date Of Birth: May 4, 1988
Actor: LaRoyce Hawkins was born in Harvey, Illinois, and became a two-time state champion while on the speech team in high school. He specialized in comedy, and after graduating, Hawkins received a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from Illinois State University. Hawkins’ first acting job came in 2008 when he starred in the sports film The Express: The Ernie Davis Story. However, Hawkins rose to prominence when he made his debut as Officer Kevin Atwater in Chicago PD​​​​​​.

Character: Many viewers have been waiting for the day when Atwater becomes a detective, and Chicago PD season 12 may finally be his season. Following the premiere, a detective’s spot opens up in Intelligence, and Atwater could easily fill that role. Prior to the premiere, showrunner Gwen Sigan teased that one character would be promoted in Chicago PD season 12. While Sigan could have been referring to Ruzek or Burgess, the most deserving candidate would undoubtedly be Atwater.
Amy Morton As Trudy Platt

Actress: Amy Morton was born in Oak Park, Illinois, where she graduated from high school before joining the Steppenwolf Theater in 1997. Morton has primarily worked in the Chicago theater scene throughout her career but eventually made her way to Broadway. In 2008, Morton was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Barbara in August: Osage County. Despite her theater work, Morton has also appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including her series regular role as Sergeant Trudy Platt in Chicago PD​​​​​​.

Character: Morton reprises her role as Sergeant Trudy Platt in the cast of Chicago PD season 12. While teasing the new episodes, the actress told NBC Insider:

Actor: Benjamin Levy Aguilar was born in Guatemala, where he was an elite soccer player, eventually getting recruited by AC Milan’s youth team. Unfortunately, Aguilar fractured his femur, abruptly ending his soccer career. After his injury, Aguilar explored several different avenues before deciding to move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career when he was 18. His first acting job was as a student in one episode of Glee in 2012. Aguilar’s breakthrough came ten years later when he started playing Officer Dante Torres in Chicago PD​​​​​​.

Character: Torres is no longer the newbie in the Intelligence Unit after Upton’s replacement arrives in Chicago PD season 12. Perhaps Torres will be persuaded to help the newest member of the team navigate Intelligence in the episodes. Just like Jay Halstead helped him, Torres may want to pass it forward in season 12.
Toya Turner As Kiana Cook
Date Of Birth: December 29, 1990
Actress: Not much is known about the newest Chicago PD cast member Toya Turner’s upbringing or the beginning of her acting career. Nevertheless, Turner is most known for her role as Shotgun Mary in Netflix’s Warrior Nun, and Officer Kiana Cook won’t be the first character the actress has played in the One Chicago universe. Turner previously guest-starred as Peaches in Chicago Fire season 2, episode 13, and as Jayna Miles in Chicago Med season 2, episode 1.

Character: Turner’s Cook is introduced during Chicago PD season 12, episode 2, “Blood Bleeds Blue.” Following a tragedy during the premiere, Cook joins the manhunt for the culprit. Afterward, Cook becomes a main character and takes Upton’s place in the Chicago PD cast.

Victoria Cartagena as Emily Martel – Victoria Cartagena guest stars as Detective Martel in episode 1. Martel serves as Upton’s replacement during the Chicago PD season 12 premiere, but her time in Intelligence ends when she is (spoiler alert!) killed at the end of the hour. Aside from the NBC police procedural, viewers might recognize Cartagena from Manifest, You, or Batwoman​​​​​​.
Sara Bues as Nina Chapman – Sara Bues reprises her role as Nina Chapman, an Assistant State Attorney, in season 12. Chapman, who has grown close to Voight, worries about him during the premiere. Shawn Hatosy as Charlie Reid – Shawn Hatosy is the other new cast member in Chicago PD season 12. His character, Deputy Chief Charlie Reid, briefly introduces himself to Voight during the premiere. The audience may recognize Hatosy as he previously starred as Detective Sammy Bryant in Southland and Andrew “Pope” Cody in Animal Kingdom​​​​​​.
