Q I work as a middle manager in an engineering company in the midlands. I report to a slightly more senior manager, and I recently discovered he has been criticising my work and performance to the ultimate boss.
To me, it was straightforward backstabbing. However when I challenged him at our annual performance review, the manager insisted that he was just doing his own job, and had done no more than give a brutally honest and accurate critique of my work to his superior. As was his duty.
