All the heroes on Earth gained their powers in one fantastic way or another. Captain America was given a super serum, Tony Stark was born rich, and Bruce Banner was hit with gamma radiation. These made all of them amazing heroes in their own right, but one hero has consistently had them beaten in strength, and that’s the God of Thunder Thor.

Everyone knows that Hulk is incredibly strong, one of the strongest. But Thor was initially created by Stan Lee specifically to be the one person who was stronger than Hulk. This seems to have become a tradition. Not only is the 616 version of Thor strong enough to kill Galactus now, but there are also dozens of versions of Thor throughout the Multiverse, and each one is incredibly powerful. These are 10 versions of Thor who are simply the best.

11 Jane Foster

Earth-616

Jane Foster was a major love interest for Thor and deeply cared about him. She worked alongside him in his Donald Blake persona and practically worshiped him. This all changed when Jane lost her husband and child in a car accident, which was only made worse when she discovered she had breast cancer. This series of tragic events changed how Jane viewed the Gods, and her opinion was changed even further when Thor lost his ability to wield Mjölnir.

Surprisingly, while Thor couldn’t wield Mjölnir anymore, Jane could. This allowed Jane Foster to become the new Thor. While she was certainly powerful, she wasn’t as strong as the original Thor, as proven when she failed to defeat the Hulk during the Phoenix Tournament. Jane would later give up the mantle of Thor and instead become Valkyrie.

10 Ragnarök

Thor is one of the most powerful members of the Avengers, and this has left a few members feeling just a bit nervous. During one of their first meetings, Tony Stark came into possession of a single strand of Thor’s hair. He held onto this for years, just in case it was ever needed. Once the events of Civil War started, Tony realized his side would need more firepower.

Using this single strand of hair, he was able to create a clone of Thor that he intended to use against the Secret Avengers. This clone would become a consistent enemy to Thor and a problem for everyone over the years. The clone even ended up joining Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers. Ragnorak has all the powers of Thor and even his own Mjölnir, which he took from another universe.

9 Beta Ray Bill

It’s always surprising to see someone else lift Mjölnir and prove that they’re just as good and as deserving to be Thor. This was the surprising case with Beta Ray Bill, an alien from Korbin. When his planet came under attack by Surtur, he was chosen to lead his people to safety. While this nearly cost him his life, he ultimately succeeded. After running into Thor, the two fought, and Bill was victorious.

With Thor reverted to his Donald Blake form, and completely unconscious, Bill curiously picked up Mjölnir and was shocked when he was transformed into Thor because of it. Not wanting there to be two Thors, Beta Ray Bill and Thor fought again, with Bill winning again. This would result in Beta Ray Bill being given the hammer Stormbreaker, and he’s been Thor ever since.

8 Iron Hammer

Earth-616 (Warp World)

One of the easiest ways to make a powerful character is to simply take two existing ones and mash them together. This is a surefire way to end up with someone obscenely powerful, almost regardless of the combination being used. This was proven to be true once again during the events of Warp World, where Tony Stark and Thor were fused into Stark Odinson. Stark Odinson’s backstory was a perfect fusion of both characters, with Stark being captured by Malekith and his Dark Elf army and being forced to create weapons with the dwarf Eitri.

This led to the pair forging the Iron Hammer Armor, which granted Stark the power to defeat Malekith. Thor is already powerful on his own, but combining his physical strength with Tony Stark’s brilliance makes him one of the most powerful versions of both Thor and Iron Man.

7 Thor Odinson

One of the most popular things that Marvel has ever done was the launch of the Ultimate Universe. It was so possible that they’ve done it a second time recently, and DC is even getting in on it with their Absolute Universe. A new universe needed a new Thor, and that’s where this character comes in. Thor had much the same powers as his 616 counterpart. His strength was still massive, more than enough to match the Hulk, as he broke the Hulk’s jaw with only three punches.

Another ability he had was teleportation, capable of using Mjölnir to instantly move anywhere he wanted, even through dimensions. But a major glaring weakness this Thor had was his belt. If it was ever removed, he’d lose both his powers and his ability to wield Mjölnir, making him markedly weaker than his 616 counterpart.

6 Thor Odinson (God of Fists)

On this Earth, Thor was never able to lift Mjölnir. He tried all his life, but he could never really lift it. This was only made more frustrating by the fact Mjölnir never left him. It constantly floated behind him, as if taunting him for his inability to wield it. Eventually, Asgard was destroyed and Earth was conquered by the Masters of Evil.

With no way to stop them, Thor traveled into the mountains to simply live in solitude, and it was here he met Lei Kung. Lei Kung trained Thor to use his fists over anything else. Day in and day out, Thor would punch Mjölnir, over and over, taking out decades of frustration. While this version of Thor never became worthy enough to be the God of Thunder, he did manage to become the God of Fists.

5 Thor Odinson

Usually, on a list of powerful variants of a character, the original character doesn’t rank very high. That just goes to show how incredibly powerful the default Thor actually is. He has complete telepathic immunity, is a master combatant, has geokinesis, can generate cosmic flames, and the list goes on and on. This isn’t even to mention his most powerful ability, known as the Odin Force.

One of his major feats, as seen in Thor #51, was containing the blast of a nuclear missile, and this was just a fraction of what the Odin Force was actually capable of. While there are a few versions of Thor stronger than the base one, they’re all older and different versions of him. While Beta Ray Bill and Jane Foster are plenty powerful, nothing can compare to the original God of Thunder.

4 Thor the Destroyer

As covered previously, Thor is incredibly powerful and has an entire host of abilities and physical achievements that put him on a level above most heroes in Marvel. That’s why it’s so absurd to imagine someone that powerful also wearing the Destroyer Armor. The armor is practically invulnerable, stronger than both adamantium and uru, the only thing that has seemed to harm the armor was a combined blast by the Celestials.

While Thor already has insane durability, wearing this armor would boost it even higher, making him nearly invulnerable to all forms of damage. The Destroyer Armor is also capable of manipulating and using energy that could shatter entire planets. A fully powered Thor who has access to the Odin Force, wearing this on top, would be one of the most fearsome beings in the universe.

2 Rune King Thor

Since Thor is from the Norse God mythology, he’s often bound to the themes and stories that have played out in Norse mythology. This is especially true of the Ragnorak event, a massive moment that would wipe out all of Asgard. Desperate to find a way to prevent this, Thor traveled to Hildstalf to try and gain the knowledge he needed. It was here that Thor learned how to reach his full potential.

This resulted in him gouging out his eyes and dropping them in the well of Mimir. He also ended up sacrificing his own life and traveling to Hel just to be reborn. When Thor eventually returned to the land of the living, Thor was known as the Rune King. His power was so great he easily defeated Loki and ended the cycle of Ragnorak, forever.

1 Old King Thor

Initially, this truly was Thor’s future. Because if Thor of Earth-616 was killed, then King Thor would also cease to exist. This eventually changed, and King Thor became his own being. This version of Thor was so ridiculously powerful that he became a “God Cop”, someone who policed and, if need be, arrested other God-like beings for not following the rules.

Not only does King Thor wield the full potential of Thor, including his very own Thor-force, but he also once bonded with the Phoenix Force. This would grant him true immortality and also grant him control and dominion over all life in the universe. While there are plenty of powerful Thors on this list, there’s simply no denying that King Thor is the most powerful to ever exist.

Associated with the mythical realm of Asgard, Thor is a Marvel Comics hero who channels the power of thunder to slay their foes. Though the name is chiefly tied to Thor Odinson, several other characters also take on the role of God of Thunder, including Odinson’s love interest, Jane Foster. Odin is portrayed as a physically imposing hero with incredible strength and typically wields the dwarven forged hammer, Mjolnir.
