A former elite Irish soldier has been killed in action in Ukraine, the Irish Independent has confirmed.
The man, aged in his late 20s, was killed in combat on Thursday, September 19.
It is understood the man, who was a highly skilled and experienced soldier had been a member of the Defence Forces Army Ranger wing.
It is understood the deceased joined the Ukrainian army at the outbreak of war but suffered significant injuries in late 2021.
However, he returned to Ukraine earlier this year and was killed fighting on the front line.
The deceased is believed to be from the East of the Country.
